Ty for the match wdg

@reporting results: does dustbowl count as 0:1 or 5:6?

For some reason prec didn't record a scoreboard for badwater or dustbowl, and fucked up the status screenshot of granary of badwater Sad

@Our side of the game: I'm disappointed at comms, teamplay, timeliness and moral

Same for me cruel - no status screenshot and I think only 1 scoreboard screenshot from dustbowl - dammit Sad

Anyone got them?

Thats pretty much everything then. If I'm honest, I don't think the practise sessions are as useful as practise games. There is only so much you can learn without an opposition.

Disagree. Simply because we haven't even learned "so much" yet. And so far it appears that those TF2Lobby stints are offering a false sense of accomplishment.

I don't know how you can be disappointed in points like teamplay and comms cruel/Tea.

We played now for 2 weeks a few matches.
What do you expect? I would say to get a good working team together you need to practice at least 3 times a week and for over 2 months.
If it doesn't work out after this time period you can be disappointed.

I don't think that teamplay will be the most important thing in this tournament, because the most of the participating teams will have the same issues we have.

We need to really decide that, I was half left to calling assaults as medic (although not like Badwater lasted long!), I'd be happy to do directing and sometimes kinda had to, but it's something we'd need some practice and decision on - a proper captain to organise everyone offhand and a caller, who is the one who directs the team; everyone else should just shout info.

Games got better with voice comms too; considering we had some mercs without presence it wasn't wholly complete in any case.

I don't think that teamplay will be the most important thing in this tournament, because the most of the participating teams will have the same issues we have.

Well, it starts with people deathmatching on the beginning of the match instead of participating in the class selection.
Then we have so much useless chatter, people stop listening even if there's only one person talking (I've warned about a sentry twice, while nobody else was talking and our team STILL somehow managed to get surprised by it).
Or we have cases where I warn several seconds in advance of spy, with disguised name, class, location AND target and he still manages to get his stab and away.
Or badwater. While I spent the entire round trying to get the sentry down, I just got no chance because there's constantly a homewrecker pyro and another guy watching the engi. Compare that to our defensive round where our engi got stabbed and sapped before he even got everything to lvl2.
I've seen übers at dustbowl where somehow only the übered heavy walks in with no support whatsover.

All of the above requires no training at all. To be frank, I expected stuff like that at our first match to work out. And that's just stuff that I - the spy who sees the least of his team - have noticed.

Or when ringle dropped out, it took us god knows how long to realize it/decide to pause the game.
Or when he came back, we told WDG to resume it, surprising half of our team.

@Caller: unfortunately we have few candidates - some are to inexperienced, some don't have the personality and some are just the plain wrong class. And since our team fluctuates so much, we definitely won't be able to make somebody permanent, but yes, we should assign somebody each round.

Speaking of which, of course we were too late for the match. AGAIN. Despite bringing two mercs.
That's just unacceptable and shameful. Also, it can theoretically get us kicked out of the tourney AND denied our medals!

@Further training: Ironically, today showed that both badwater and dustbowl - the maps we didn't discuss - have the most to discuss. Thing is, why bother if we never ever get half of our team into the training? And then we get people complaining about "too much talking"

And since we treated this like a real match, can everybody in the match please confirm they have recorded a demo? Because I've counted less than 9 and I doubt many have configured it to not announce it in the chat.

Edit: And while nobody asked, when I say morale, I mean stuff like announcing "oh it's over, we got no chance anymore". That happened several times today. Sometimes it was true, at least once it wasn't true (very awesome save by medic/solly/? on dustbowl) and once somebody said it at the beginning of the round. THAT IS NOT HOW YOU MOTIVATE PEOPLE!

I somehow feel adressed with this. Yes I did say "Its over just run in" and other stuff multiple times, but that was clearly on occasions where there was no theoretical chance of winning anymore (as far as I remember it was on Granary when we had to defend last and only had 50 seconds left, you cant cap 4 points in that time.)

Im clearly not someone who just starts demotivating others when frustrated.

Sorry if this just sounds like its always about me, but I directly felt mentioned by that and wanted to clarify Smiley

---

Still you guys shouldnt see this evening THAT negative. Sure we had alot of problems in terms of communicating. I for example tried my best in calling stuff but half of that didnt reach the others because atleast 4 people were talking at the same time during the whole match. But thats a problem new teams especially Highlander teams will run in alot. Having 9 people in one channel and they all see something on the map will cause a shitstorm, I can guarantee that. But there are just limited options to handle that. WoW guilds for example only let their leaders talk and the others are muted, thats a final solution we could do, but I dont think thats needed. I support scroggages recommendation of choosing someone as a caller, he will be focused on giving the orders on attacks (and only this guy!) while the others will concentrate on calling only the important positions (noone can do anything with "scout here" or "look out theres a pyro") well have to learn that but that comes with experience.

So dont give up right away, well have to deal with those problems in our first practice games, its still over 10 days till our first group match, so well have some time to sort that out Smiley

I gotta go with abda with alot of this. I realise I wasn't in your chat but you have to realise you're essentially playing a mix, but with 9 people in a channe. Without it being pre-structured and practiced, it will turn into a bit of a clusterfuck on comms, our comms were slightly better perhaps, but that's because we've all known and been playing together for the past couple of years. Don't take it so much to heart, shit happens, learn from any mistakes and improve on it on your next match.

I can assure you guys, we werent sitting there going "LoL, we r pwning them, they r shit", you made us work for the win.

I had some anon feedback that there was no "clear single voice" calling the shots. This in my mind is your #1 priority. Put someone in command and listen to him.

I also agree with Mama - whilst this wasn't the toughest T-regs match I've played, it was no walkover. If a couple of things had gone the wrong way then the result would have been different.

Impressed by your demo in mid of granary (Chaos?) - kept the area locked down well and was difficult to attack from the ground. I thought we killed your medic a bit too often... need to keep him safe and push with uber advantage.

On dustbowl - stage 1 you had your shit together - especially on point 2 attack where your solly caused difficulties for me defending on the point. Good use of uber to break in and win it.

Stage 2 you really were not all there I felt. First cap fell and we seemed to hit the 2nd quite hard (I noticed an absence of a sentry on point 2).

Stage 3, again, bit soft on cap 1 (where was your pyro btw - felt he could have f*cked our uber up more and defended your gun). Not much demo spam from you either.

Cap 2 is always harder - more concerted effort but felt we ground an opening out. Cover tunnel more maybe? Other than that, I didn't really see much as I was just spamming minigun on the corner (your sniper got me a few times but I was trying to assist Mama as bait).

Noticed that you didn't use offensive uber much - and I suppose this is correct for a match tbh. Your counter uber on the heavy was effective, but noticed your poor pyro died lots when you had uber (despite him being able to f*ck our attack up if he'd stayed alive).

Well done - a few live competition games and you guys will be right in there. You're good enough Wink - so get that captain nice and loud and you'll have some real fun in the comp!

Well I'm loud and confident but not sure if anyone trusts me Wink

But yeah I know I haven't been about at all recently and probably should have posted something but I'm sorting out some important real life stuff atm.

Sounds like we need someone who isn't afraid to tell people to shut up for a minute so he can call/organise the team. I don't mind being that guy but someone needs to take the game by the scruff of the neck when I'm not there. (Sure I wrote/spoke that exact paragraph about a year ago remember chaos? Ah takes me back Smiley)
