So, ever since I got the Roccat Kone and cloth mousemat combo, every now and then (say every hour ish) the mouse freaks out (can't look up/down, limited left/right movement) for about 2 seconds which I initially put down to cat hair on the mousemat and the crazy high mouse sens (3200dpi or something).
Now, after cleaning the mouse mat with one of those hair removal brush jobbies and the sensor with a cotton bud, the fuckers still doing it. I did a bit of reading on some techie forums and aparently its to do with the polling rate and at high sensitivities and 1000mhz polling the sensor starts to pick up individual fibres on the mousemat, which I thought sounded pretty suspect, so they suggest lowering the polling rate. Dropped the rate to 500mhz, and it still does it, dropped it to 125 (the lowest the software will let it go) and its still doing it, although not as much and not for as long.

What I want to know is, has anyone else experienced anything similar? I paid a buttload of cash for this mouse and as much as I like it, if its going to freak out on a £10 mousemat I'm going to send the fucker back. I have tested it on a plastic mat but not really for long enough to get a conclusive comparison and I'm closing in on my window of return to Amazon so need some advice before I decide what to do.

tl;dr Mouse freaks out on cloth mousemat, is the mouse broken or just stupid? Should I return it?

Personally I would try a different mousemat first for an extended period of time. Even the smallest of fibres on the sensor can send it haywire which is what it sounds like is happening (and I had a similar problem - although it only very rarely happened because I don't have any cats or anything.

It's probably designed to be used on a Titan CopKiller type mousemat. That said, decreasing the sampling rate shouldn't make any difference to the precision - if there are fibres throwing it off I'd expect that to still happen whatever rate you used. That does sound a bit ... suspect.

If you don't have time to test with a different mat, I'd probably send it back and worry about it later.

Moar testing Sad.

Will give it another couple of weeks on my old mouse mat and see how it does. I'm only sticking with it as apart from the odd freak out, its a really really nice mouse.

@claws, I read on a couple of places that with a high polling rate/sens, when you make lots of big movements (ie, low ingame sens) it picks up all the shite on your mat. Or something like that. Might just be the same rumor getting reposted though I guess; joys of the internet, any question answered, 95% of the time incorrectly Tongue.

@papa, I've got about a week left of amazons 30 day, no questions asked returns policy; after that I doubt I'll be able to do much as, afaik there isn't anything wrong with it, just that it doesn't work very well on my mousemat...

i don't see how it could have anything to do with the polling rate. If it doesn't work with the mousemat you want it to work with then return it. Gaming mice are too expensive to settle for something not quite right.

Polling rate is just to do with response times of your mouse, I too, fail to see how this can affect (effect?) it freaking out.  Can you drop your DPI?  Why do you even need a 3200dpi mouse?  Remember when I used to pan the shit out of you in SCOUT BATTLE!?  I did that with a old Microsoft mouse.  An overpriced mouse, a 1337 pwner does not make.
