Mine arrived yesterday as hoped. Had a blast for an hour or so last night, good fun. The melee is very consoley but, what else can you do, without overcomplication?

im stuggling to think of a game where melee is done well

Single player is supposed to be good. Multiplayer is supposedly "lazy" peer to peer.

dead island is janky as all hell but the melee is interesting just for the sheer complication of it all. you can punch, kick, stomp, crush limbs, cut limbs, take down, put a bunch of mods on all your weapons, and the different weapons handle differently, the two handed axe is pretty funny it swings your view so hard you have no idea whats going on but you end up with zombie gibs. Its not a very refined or tight melee system but its very sandbox which prevents it from getting boring.

Space marines idea of variety is a single button combo system or if you want to really shake things up you can hit stun at the end, theres not even that many animations to it all which is part of the problem, batman melee only has attack, counter, dodge, and stun, and batarang, but the masses of animation mean you can just spam attack and it doesn't get boring.

As awesome as this game was, combat boiled down to nothing more than clickclickclickclickclick. Never played the others. And shut up Hzza.

Pretty much. Played it on a 360 controller so occasionally used different buttons or even TWO BUTTONS AT ONCE. What I meant was that despite its simplicity it just felt so much more physical, was clearer to play, and was at least more complex than slash slash slash stomp slash slash slash execution. It meant (for me) that it barely felt repetitive, to the point of which I played the challenges for hours just to get a flawless flow bonus for every single round. Space Marine's combat had me bored by the end of the fairly short demo, which wasn't a great sign.

Haven been slightly put off the multiplayer though, more inclined to purchase it for the 360

Just completed the game. Visually very pleasing, the ending which initialy looked same old same old, turned into something considerably more dramtic

First opinions: Single player a bit shit, multiplayer lulzy as hell once you get passed the initial bullshit (lvl 3 you unlock jumppack) Various 1 hit kill OP weapons but seemingly there's only ever one guy on each team doing it.
