Found a really nice SSD offer - http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1You get 7% off if you go via Quidco too, making it brilliant value. @Junta Depends a bit on the SSD's. Performance loss for 'degraded' drives varies depending on brands (around 15%), but is much lower than the speed gains from Striping. OCZ Indilinx drives and Samsung PB22-J based drives have background garbage collect firmwares, which work whilst the drives are RAIDed. The Sandforce based drives barely degrade at all in the first place.

Not a bad drive that, but I'd probably spend the extra tenner for the Crucial now. Like I said before though putting your OS on SSD should be a priority if you spend much time on the desktop at all, games are more of a luxury for when you've got space to spare.

Pointless requoting accounts for about 70% of my post count and that was about as pointless a requote as your ever going to get. Opportunity not to be missed.

Amongst other things. It also improves app loading times and sorts out all the little annoying delays incurred by an HDD, Especially when multitasking. Best way to describe it is it feels similar to if you've ever added RAM to a system that needed it (like going from 512 to 2GB in Vista). It almost completely eliminates the way that your comp feels bogged down after youve loaded 6 months worth of crap onto it - I've had my install for the best part of a year now, It's got a ton of services autoloading and I can be in TF2 25 seconds from the windows logo at boot. I've got SSD's in my laptop and HTPC as well as my gaming comp now, can't live without them. For me it was a much better place to drop my upgrade money than getting a DX11 card or going i5 /i7.

So, just re-installed Win 7 on my SSD. Was running fine. Anyway.. just after a few windows updates, I restart the PC. Avira complains that it cannot start - Avira antivirus folder is unreadable. Loads of windows file errors too. bah... anything special needed for install onto SSD? Relegated the SSD to storing some games for now.. not having essential folders going missing!

No, nothing special. Sounds like you might have been shipped a dodgy one. Run scandisk and see what the SMART values are like.

Have tried again - copying a hard disk image over to SSD. Seems OK so far.
May have been an issue with hard drive having system partition and ssd the same. Dunno, will see.

OK.. my SSD seems to have disappeared after a reboot of the PC. This problem is also widely reported via the Corsair support forum. I would therefore personally recommend that people stay away from the following device: Corsair Reactor 60GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (CSSD-R60GB2-BRKT) http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?p=453435

Oh dear, I was just about to order one! Think I'll go with Zarfs one instead . edit - Stupid question time, it says in the spec for that thing that the interface is SATA 6Gb/s; I'm guessing that means it won't work with my SATA-II?
