The new Splinter Cell looks terrible

nice, that almost looks like its running on the deus ex engine, but at the end it opened up and got fairly gta-like. Playing SR3 atm and so fed up of over the top shit in gta games (SR3 is still lols and im going to 100% it but its over the top elements trip over its gta legacy and it has no idea what its doing). Something like deus ex in a sandbox would be a million times better.

To be fair, I can't see the game actually playing like that. If it does, fair enough, that's amazing, but I have low expectations that they've made a game where running out of ammo and taking out two guys with guns is standard practice. Also quite annoyed that he didn't pick up the revolver off the guy who got bricked.

The crafting system looks boss though.

I liked the Fallout 3 system, but there was little logic in what you picked up. Some of those weapons required stuff that otherwise was just heavy trash and you'd ignore it.

I don't pay attention to crafting systems. They tend to boil down to either:-

* You need this, but there's no documented way of reliably obtaining it, so just carry on doing what you were doing anyway and if you're lucky you'll find some.
or
* You need this, grind x monsters to get it.

I always find it an overwhelmingly complex system without clearly defined risk/reward and a lot of menu scrolling. "How many dildo batteries do I need to make the electrified cock ring? Oh twelve, right." Then the electrified cock ring turns out to be useless because you get a penectomy in act 2.

That said, a molotov seems like a vaguely useful item to have, will be cool if the game continues in the background whilst you try to craft it, though I guess normally he'd have it crafted already.

As if they didnt learn what they did wrong with Conviction, it was fun, but that was no Splinter Cell game, and this looks even more like FOR AMERICA PRESS X TO KILL EVERY ARAB IN THE ROOM-crap. Also thank god Michael Ironside didnt sign up for this anymore, makes it easier for me to avoid this. And what the hell is wrong with Sam Fisher anyway, this game is set after Conviction so from a lore point of view he has to be over 60 years old, yet he looks like mid-20s.

It looks like a good game but i'm slightly creeped out by the youtube comments praising the realism, and the enemies begging not to be killed. Skyrim suffered from that too but to a lesser extent, at least in skyrim you could kindof be merciful and they'd just be a douche heal and come back at you. This game the enemies seem to be begging for their lives as you gruesomely and very personally kill them, its kinda a step too far towards realism to me. And probably again with the game forcing you to be a brutal murderer because the ai refuses to surrender. Which is a weird contradiction for something striving for realism.

EDIT: I think deus ex captures this really well by making knock-outs valid play. In deus-ex I very rarely go lethal and only when scumbags deserve it. If killing people must be brutally realistic i want a non-violent approach.

Did conviction sell well? I feel like sneaking games are kinda of a niche (right now?) and they're aiming for bigger profits.
