Like Scroggage said, the Oblivion storyline is wank, but I still poured about 70 hours into dicking around so its pretty good value for money on that front.

Already played a bit and it's better than Morrowind (so your life is spared for now Scroggage). Have now escaped the first sewer thingy and am now wandering aimlessly around the country side trying to figure out how to view the quest log.

I didn't think the levelling was that bad, although I know I'm on my own here - either people will say 'this is stupid I can just go to the orc level and kill the queen at level 1', or 'this is stupid, i went to some town and got killed in 0.1 seconds by an orc queen'.

I'm with Milli on Morrowind though, even tricked out + with mods it was still boring. Obli far more fun despite its flaws.

I loved oblivion, must have put a couple of hundred hours into it in total. As others have said, ignore the main story line. Bethesda seem to be very bad at making main quests, it's the same with fallout 3. The guild quests and miscellaneous quests make up for it though.

I would advise installing some mods, this site is the best place to get them. The unofficial patch is almost required, it fixes a shit tonne of bugs that bethesda couldn't be assed to fix themselves. I'd also suggest using a mod that changes the leveling system, the vanilla one can screw you over later in the game if you don't level up the 'correct' way early on.

I can try to explain it in simple terms if you like, but if you want the full meaty explanation:

I have read most of that wiki during my Oblivion-obsession days and it's awesome awesome awesome, will always help if you are stuck.

Also, you NEED this because so much of the game is broken if you don't get it (eg. you can't finish quests because the people in the quest disappear, items randomly break, monsters instead of dying become invincible etc etc)

The most fun quest line is definitely the thieves guild. The most overpowered skill is Destruction Magic, and don't play any of their shitty pre-made classes because they all suck.

The levelling up system is a bit retarded with regards to enemy strength. I can understand tougher creatures roaming the countryside and dungeons, but when you're wandering round at level 20 or so punching homeless beggars for kicks and they pull out a glass dagger worth more than one of my houses, it's a bit silly.
