The missus has done her best to completley and utterly skint me this last 2 months. Ive bought a pram, a sensible family hatchback, a nursery, and all manner of other baby releated crap. After this defiling of my finances I've totted up and have £150 to buy myself a new GFX card to replace my 8800GT.

So options are;
5770 1GB ~£130
GTX260 ~£140
4870 1GB ~£120
4890 ~£135

I'd be tempted to get the 4890 but my PSU is a cheapo EZcool 550w but I'm worried it might blow up. It's fine with the 8800gt and the voltages are stable but could it handle any of these cards? I really don't want to blow my pc up. But if I buy a decent psu then I can't afford a decent gpu

Rest of spec;
My monitor is 1920x1080
E6500 @ 4ghz
gigabyte p35 jibby mobo
4gb ram
2xHDD
the psu optimisticly has 2xpci-e 6pin connectors

I ran my 4850 off of a 520w PSU and now I run my 5850 off it too...and it's probably a couple of years old now? It is a good brand though - corsair.

the new 5 series cards use less power than the old 4 series ones.. so a 5770 needs less power than a 4890..

TBH, out of those options, I'd go for the 5770 as it'll out perform most of the other options and brings new tech (DX11) to the table

Using papas calculator the 5770 uses less power than my current 8800gt and since Chaos recommends it over the others I'll go with that. Hopefully I'll get £25 for my 8800gt on eBay that I can put toward a better psu.
As soon as it gets into voltages/wattage etc I haven't a clue. Like  when overclocking my CPU I just left Everything on auto and bumped up the fsb to 400. Luckily it worked

If you're looking into PSUs, the lower end of the market is dominated by Corsair.. They make amazing power supplies for the money! anything under 100 quid and there's your brand... If you can stretch to the modular version you'll be better off in the long run due to better airflow ect..

If you're looking higher up the food chain (£100-£200) it opens up a lot.. I like Tegan, but I've heard good things about the more expensive BeQuiet stuff too

The 4890 is great, but draws more power than the 5770. I'm sure the 4890 is a faster card than the 5770 though

With any of those cards your system power draw would only be around 300W.
5770 is a solid choice.

Will most likely get one myself soon. Currently considering either a MSI Hawk or a Sapphire Vapor-X.

Got the Asus CuCore one, I can't hear it when running and the temps seems low even at load. I looked at a vapour-x but didn't think it was worth an extra £20. Haven't overclocked it yet though.
