Don't buy it 'till u've seen it running. The cheap TV's have cheap panels and the quality sucks and they bleed light from the edges of the panel.

We always do it like this (TV, screens a.s.o.): We go to a shop which sells expensive screens.. TVs etc. find the one we like.. look at the price and run away as fast as we can. Then we find the same TV/screen in the internet and order it a lot cheaper. (Well okay the TV we have at the moment we actually bought in that shop because they let us pay in 10 rates and we didn't have to pay anything extra). PS: That TV is not known in germany? That must be crap

PS: That TV is not known in germany? That must be crap Or completely inefficient! Things like this are very common in the UK... A lot of the cheap name tv's are re-branded and put in a different enclosure for sale as "exclusive models" to retailers. E.g. pro-line = comet, matsui = curry's? (i think) etc. etc. Generally they are all made by the same large scale manufacturer. They tend to be pretty cheap and generally pretty crap. If you want a good TV, go for a good brand like Sony, Samsung, Panasonic etc. but they tend to be expensive! As for what Hzza said - I completely disagree. Go for the TV that's the right size for the room that you're using it in. It looks crap when people have a 50" tv in a 9ft box room. On that note...try this...it's an extra £25 but it'll be much better quality. 32" - Full HD. http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/2974729/art/samsung/le32b530-lcd-television.html

At that size 720p is as good as 1080p so long as you're not using it as a pc monitor (i.e sat right in front of it). Much better to get a decent 720p screen than a crappy 1080p esp since you're working with a low budget anyway. What does he want to use it it for most? Watching hidef movies? Gaming? Standard def TV or DVD's? This seems to fit the bill anyway - It's 32", in-budget and 5* from 88 feedbacks - http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/5320508/Samsung-Series-4-32-LE32A436-HD-Ready-Freeview-Widescreen-LCD-TV/Product.html?ptsl=1&ob=Price&fb=0If he's really into movies tell him to look into getting an older Panasonic or Pioneer plasma. The image quality is leagues ahead.

I think there has to be an element of you get what you pay for. I originally brought a 32" Samsung TV. It had numerous little issues that just didn't go away. Even after several warenty repairs. Eventually I was offered a replacment. By that time the Sony TV I had wanted was now the price I had originally payed for the Samsung. Very happy with the sony. Hasn't put a foot wrong yet.
If you can justify getting a full fat 1080, then get it over the half fat 720. I don't have any high def kit, so 720 did me a treat.
I'm unconvinced at the 60mhz+ TVs. The old tube TVs were 50mhz and my eye sight never noticed any flicher. I think the human eye only needs 25 frames a second to percieve motion. But maybe this is something that showes up with high def kit.
Happy shopping fella.
PS: I was recently helping my Mum & Dad get a new TV. Took them to ASDA and Tesco to show them the wares. They eventually went to John Lewis. I was very supprised to find that they were the cheapest deal.

I think it does make a difference...one thing that you get with LCD's that you never see on old style TVs (or monitors) is ghosting...if you watch something fast moving like football / action films you will notice that the ball seems to blur slightly. This is why gaming monitors have a faster refresh rate than normal monitors and why you can get TV's with 100Hz refresh rates as it negates the effect. But rippy - you are right...the eye only looks at 25 fps...but if you look at something that's 25 fps you will definitely notice it. I'm sure there's a plethora of information about it on the internet.
