Oh...does the card have a HDMI port? It could be that it's trying to install the HDMI Audio drivers (that are separate to the video drivers).

See: http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-140044-Unknown-Device-In-Device-Manager-After-Installing-Radeon-HD-4890.html

Possible solution:
1) ignore it...you don't need hdmi audio
2) make sure you have .NET 2.0/3.5 installed and you've used the full ATI package (rather than graphics driver only)

Edit: I'm like 95% certain it's this.

Good man deadly, it was that! Just uninstalled it in device manager, I don't plan on connecting a hdmi device to my pc any time soon. Cheers for all the help guys.

If i'm honest, i'm disappointed it is that though as now it looks like my gaming problems must be a power supply issue.

Right, another question now Smiley

Heres my spec, what kind of power supply do you think I would need? :

Q6600 running at default speed  (2.4)
3GB of ram
4770 512mb
1 500GB harddrive
1 cd drive
1 tv card (which I don't really use)
ms-7502 motherboard.

Well take this as an example...

I have the following:
Q9550
4Gb DDR3
4850 512mb
1x 1TB HDD
1x 64Gb SSD (but before that I had a Raptor X 150Gb 10,000RPM)
2x DVD drive
1x Creative X-Fi
1x Fan Controller
(and generally a few USB devices plugged in...mouse & keyboard are usb)
And I did until very recently have a PCI Digital TV tuner in there as well.

and all that runs off a 520W Corsair PSU.

It's unlikely to be your power supply (or the power supply is unable to deliver the correct amount of power on particular voltages/rails...the power supply provides different levels of power to different components...you might be overloading one level?)

According to here: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
Your PC requires roughly a 300W PSU (271W...but not sure on the fans etc.)

Yeah thats pretty much confirmed what chaos told me, btw I have a 550W psu. How would I check if i'm overloading one level?

The PSU Cheez has, I previously used to power the following:

8GB Ram DDR2 800Mhz (4 x 2Gb sticks)
1 x 1TB Samsung SATA drive
1 x 750GB Samsung SATA drive
ATI 4770
1 x DVD burner
Core 2 Duo E8400 (stock speed 3ghz)
Antec 900 gaming case - 1 huge fan at the top and 3 x 120mm case fans.

So, in theory I'd say it was capable tbh. Maybe the Core 2 Quad needs that much more?

Cheez - you are using the 6-pin power lead (for the graphics card) directly from the PSU? Not a standard 4-pin power lead with a 6-pin adaptor?

If you want to send the PSU back to me then we'll do a deal on a bit of a refund mate. Your decision Wink

I wouldn't say that the quad needs that much more tbh, specially considering deadlys rig (a Q9550 is a quad right?).

Did the psu come with a 4-pin power lead with a 6-pin adapter on it? If not then no, if yes then maybe Smiley

Tbh mate I wanna get to the bottom of the mystery, kind of exciting Wink Plus I hate leaving things unfinishing, its like letting the computer win and I'm not a big fan of losing lol.

The PSU had a 6-pin graphics card power cable attached (two I think). You could try either one.

The case for the 4770 also had a 4-pin to 6-pin power converter in it as well.

You could have used either but I'd personally recommend the 6-pin cable connected right to the PSU.

Yes, Q9550 is a quad.

If you think its power related, then I have some questions:

1) Does the restart issue happen when the PC is under load only? I.e. in game or do you get restarts at any other time (i.e. light windows use).

2) What error messages are you seeing (if any)?

3) Does the PC get more stable with the old graphics card in?

4) Does the PC get more stable if you remove the TV card or other components?

5) Is the fan on the 4770 spinning loudly (it is loud at 100% and normally very quiet at other times).

I'd maybe consider a fresh install of your O/S maybe, eliminate the possibility of mixed driver issues.

As for the HDMI port - yes, I should have mentioned that (sorry). I had the same device driver pop-up when I installed the card myself in my PC!.

*facepalm*

Definitely use the 6-pin connector on the PSU...don't use the adapter unless you have to.

Junta has made some good points. If it was the PSU...chances are you could replicate it fairly easily by placing your system under similar load (maybe try the folding @ home that runs on your GPU to stress that out) and also try monitoring the temperatures...maybe your gfx card or something is overheating? (not sure what kind of cooling setup you have)

Or maybe you're just too good for computers of our time. Come back in 100 years when they can keep up with you Cheesy

I have no idea if its power-related, i'm completely in you guys' hands. I'm no expert I'm just using the logic that the only new things are a psu and gfx card so it must be something to do with one of them Smiley
As for the questions:

1. It has restarted as I get to my login screen, it has when I have just logged in, it has when i've just loaded up tf2, it has when I have loaded tf2 and then clicked on a button, it has when I start loading up a server and it is just about to get onto the server, it has when i've been playing tf2 for 30 mins, and one night i'm sure I played for a couple of hours.

2. No error messages even after I delselected that option you told me to in advanced system settings.

3. Haven't tried, may try in a minute.

4. As above, although I don't use the tv card and don't really have any other components.

5. No its not spinning load and gpu-z says its running at 33%.

What will a fresh install wipe? Just worried about my configs and stuff like that.

As for your last comment: You have given me a great deal on the gfx and psu, you have been really helpful with the problems and your a guy thats hard to dislike. But I feel like killing you right now lol, I must of reinstalled drivers and restarted my computer a few hundred times over the past week. Thinking about, maybe my pc has just developed a love of restarting, maybe cus I have restarted so much recently it thinks that what its designed to do, maybe my computer is an intelligent lifeform?!?!?!?!?111eleven

By the sound of it mate, It doesn't sound power related after those last comments (because the restart happens at different times).

At the risk of you hating me even more, if it were me I'd do the following:

Try to work out if it is one specific component. Swap the old GFX card back in, see if things get more stable after trying it out. If the symptoms go away, then you will narrow it down to the graphics card (and I will sort you out for that).

If that is too unpalatable, then I'd at least whip out the TV card and see if that improves things. It may be that the TV card and the GFX card don't get on, but I'd expect to be seeing error messages not simple restarts. This will at least prove that there is the possibility of a conflict between GFX card and TV card. I'm not pinning my hopes on this.

As for a O/S complete re-install, the only thing that this will prove is that there is no mix-up or legacy software drivers getting in the way. It is something that I would try myself tbh. Its not nice, but it answers allot of questions usually. Yes, you'd need to back up your data but if like me you have two drives, then keep the drive with your steam folder intact and only re-install the system drive where the O/S lives.

Whatever happens, just pick one thing to check at a time. I've learned the hard way that changing lots of things and trying to investigate afterwards just leads to more of a head ache.

Right now I feel that this could even be a software issue. Normally though, it manifests itself with error messages (at least in the Windows event log that you can get to via the control panel). See what that has to say.

Just ran folding for a bit and my computer hasn't restarted. Gpu is at 95% load or thereabouts, fan speed is at around 50% and temp is at around 72 C (is normally around 50 odd at no significant load).

Faulty PSU's can cause all sorts of havoc at any time.  I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

Agree a rebuild would be the quickest way to rule out software.

Well I have just switched the power cable going into the 4770, both of them look like 6 pins neither look like they have an adapter on them. But since I did that there has been no restarts, even when I loaded up tf2 and played for a little bit.

So hopefully that simple swap has fixed it, and thats no problem for me cus I only have a 2-pin pci-e slot left and don't plan on putting anything in it. Thanks again for the help guys, have been applauding people for helping; enjoy that internet love.

P.s. Will report back here with my tail between my legs when it randomly restarts in a minute Wink
