Everytime I've deleted my config files all the settings stayed exactly the same, I think the only way to get around it is to either a) backup the default configs and keep them saved somewhere (which I ALWAYS forget to do!) or b) re-install the damn game!

If you delete all cfg files, the game will recreate them on next start up..... ie blank files.

I have a feeling the in game options menu to move keys areound is to blame as I'm not sure where these are kept.... as i dont recall seeing them in the cfg folder.

You normally only have the following files (default)

autoexec.cfg
class.cfg (1 for each class where class = name of class)
settings.scr - This hold game options but don't think it includes controls

Thats what I thought, but my previous settings were reloaded and then rewritten in the configs...no idea why or how but there you go!

No there is actually a toggle for the startup options to reset everything (-autoconfig), but I actually thought that deleting the configs would also do it. Hmm wonder where all the stuff is saved, except for the configs, then.

Well that's what I thought, too... apparently we're wrong?

All it shows in the menu is the current bind in your config.cfg. You can edit your config.cfg directly and see the changes in the menu when you boot up a game. You can also change some cvars in the console and they will appear in the controls menu accordingly as soon as it saves the changes.

I'm wondering if there is some sort of Steam cloud implementation going on, though officially it's not supported by TF2.

Last time I did it was about 8/9 months ago, not long after I got the new rig set up so I don't think it would've been a Steam cloud thing; I think like egg suggested, the details are also stored elsewhere otherwise where would my stuff have loaded from?!

Perhaps something has changed.... I developed my scripts ages ago, and the delete all files definately worked then when I was testing.

Wheres config.cfg stored physically? I don't remember seeing one in my cfg folder....

Should be in the cfg folder. Also on a second thought, the -autoconfig parameter shouldn't mess with the binds, it merely resets the video settings, so it would be useless here.

Even if it is saved elsewhere, if you rebind it from the console it should be overwritten, it makes no sense to overwrite something I want to change with some old setting that might be saved elsewhere.

Your guess with some kind of a keyboard macros could be right, that's why I asked how Blue opens the disguise kit. If it depends on another button to be pushed, that very well might be some kind of a keyboard macro, but if he just scrolls there and the key is suddenly rebound than it's unlikely a keyboard problem, because a keyboard can't possibly detect that the disguise kit is opened now, at least not to my knowledge.

GIVE US THE CONFIGS ALREADY, WE'RE DYING HERE!

Basically, answer this questions please:
- can you run forward as a spy at all, be it with disguise kit open or not (with the E key)? If you can, then the problem is with the way you open your disguise kit. If you can't, but can run with other classes, then the problem is most certainly triggered in your spy.cfg.
- Do you open the disguise kit with a button (be it a number button or some different button) and if so, where did you set the button up? Game menu, console, editing a .cfg file or what?
- If you open the disguise kit, which button is shown as "Change disguise team", E or T?

That's true, but then it wouldn't be a keyboard problem anymore. Wink What I meant by scroll is that he has the mousewheel to be +nextweapon or whatever that is called, like in standard binds. Sure, if he bound wheel up or down directly to the disguise kit, you are completely right.

all other cfg's are empty except config_arena which has:

maxplayers 18 // Team sizes are derived from maxplayers. Each arena match has 3 teams, two playing and one waiting in the queue. So maxplayers 18 will give you a max team size of 6 (18/3).

If I am already holding e down while i open it i can continue to run but the second i release it it will ONLY change class and not go forward.
