Played on a server which played ride of the valkries whenever you got uber'ed, was awesome.

We need a mod that plays a random sound from a selection when an uber goes off. Too many good choices!

It's also useful to learn through the fire and the flames on an ACTUAL GUITAR
sweep picking is for fags though

Fair enough with multiplayer, though I was in a random TF2 pub once with someone mic-spamming 'Amazing Horse' and I didn't even mind. Found it empowering.

I still think your idea of the Sir Digby Chicken-Ceaser song every time you get ubered is a good shout.

Which brings me to a question: Has anybody ever found a way to play music from within the game (play command) while on a server? If you start your own server it works fine, but online didn't work.

I don't quite get what you mean there. if you want to broadcast the sound to everyone you could use HLSS but we ban people pretty quickly for using that

You may have missed the small, yet essential keyphrase "play command".
You can play mp3s and wavs from inside TF2. And yes, only you can hear them! However, and as I mentioned, I can do that on a local server, but when I try that online it fails. Not entirely sure why, since as far as the music files are concerned nothing is different. Hence my question.

PS: I would know a few songs which would be great during setup time to get people in the mood

Well if you don't mind a clumsy, slow interface:
Download & install vlc (do it even if you don't want to use this solution)
start it and select web interface under view -> add interface (you need to do that everytime you start it. maybe there is a way to do it permanently in the options, I haven't checked.)
Now ingame open the ingame browser of steam and point it to localhost:8080
Voila you now have a fully functional audio player under your control while ingame!

Though you might wanna just alt-tab out of the game, that's faster.

Or simply start a mp3 player of your choice and start the tracks manually.
No, my idea was to create a simply ingame menu and just hit a key (resp. 2) to play a track. Again, it's all working locally.

I see what you mean now.
You need sv_pure to be set to 0 or something..
That's also why my Spitfire Direct Hit mod wont work
