Just to let u know I won't be around for a while. Believe my gpu has died, but am doin some testing round mates (sleeze) house to confirm.
If it is my gpu I need some advice on what to replace it with please
currently have an xfx 8800 ultra need to game at 1920x1200 resolution needs to be a shit load better than the ultra, faster, cooler, less power usage.
Price not to bothered about but needs to be value for money. Don't wanna blow 400 on a top end card again for it to blow after 2 years lol

5850 at that res tbh. Try and pick one up for around £200, they overclock well enough to beat a stock 5870 (which has more shaders). Future proofs you for another couple of years too with DX11.
IIRC XFX waranty is at least 2 years, so you might just be able to send it back.

If you want less power usage, good luck, I'll be here waiting around while you get a worse fanless card and not being able to run that resolution with decent settings You won't get any suggestions from this forum for anything that uses a low amount of power while playing games. Generally newer cards have better desktop power uses though. Got a 5850 which works fine (with second monitor on too, still struggling with a third on the same card) at that resolution as Zarf said. I should try overclocking it a bit, but it has some factory overclock already.

Cheers for the tips Good thoughts Zarf but I'm pretty sure its well over two years.... how long has it been since that card was top of the pile? Its been that long i cant remember exactly when I bought it @FD im too much a techie to even consider a fanless card tbh I'm not up on the latest PC stuff currently, I just know that the ultra is a power hungry hot mofo and read about the new ati cards being better on power etc... I only have 1 monitor so ill look at the 5850 (and + ) ty again all for help I'll hopefully see you all in game soon

5850 should be better than a 8800 ultra on power. Think the Ultra is similar to my GTX at around 180W max, and the 5850 is 150W max.
IIRC the Geforce 8 series came at the same time as Vista was launched! November 2006! Ultra was launched in May '07. Have to say I love my 8800GTX, I bought mine back around spring '08 (replacing a 8800GTS 320!) and it's still going strong with a little overclocking. Apart from Crysis and ARMA2 I've had no problems playing stuff on high at 1920x1200.
5850 is close to three times as fast though, That's what i've got my eye on for after I graduate.

Think I'm gonna plump for 2x 5770 in crossfire 2 of these is ~£250, and they are similiar if not better performing than a single 5870 which is ~£350 Will check my mobo to ensure its got 2x16xPCI-e slots before I order them Believe my mobo is the GigaByte GA-P35-DS3P, which on the website has apparantly got 2x16xPCI-e slots.... But will check tonight to make doubly sure

p35 is 2 x16 slots but with crossfire it slows down to 2 x8 slots
If you want crossfire with full speed you need x38/x48/x58 (and I believe p55)
