Found this http://service.futuremark.com/hardware/ looks like the best £ - performance is the 4770 (as recommended by Junta). Never seen one for sale though. The 5750 seems to be the one to go for.

I want to get a 5870 (the pain of gaming at 1920x1200 ) but I'm waiting for availability to improve in the hope that it'll bring down the prices below £300.

Seriously considering taking that off your hands junta, not a computer expert so just wondering how I would find out if my computer would 'like' this card? (Don't want to waste your time if, liked skinned, it won't fit in my pc)

You will be able to use it as long as you have an "ordinary" case. In worst case if you have a HDD cage on the front of the cage you'll have to put the HDDs in the normal slots above and take out the HDD cage. It's a bit longer than the usual card, but it should be fine.
The other thing is, if your PC is fast enough, so the card doesn't bore itself and what's with the PSU?

Well... you need: 1) A PCI Express slot (its not a big card at all) - fits on a Micro ATX motherboard so its about 8 inches long. DOES take up TWO slots wide because of the big fan on it though, so don't bank on having another card (i.e. soundcard) right next door to it (same with most modern cards). 2) A spare 6 pin PCI express power cable (or an adaptor to convert a standard 4-pin molex cable to a 6 pin power connector, I probably have one I can chuck in for you if needed) 3) 450w or better power supply. Would probably run on a lower spec power supply but it really doesn't need much power tbh. This is the exact model: http://www1.sapphiretech.com/us/products/products_overview.php?gpid=303see "System Requirements" for exact details

Hmm my power supply is only 400w, will that be a problem. Other things its running is a Q6600 and 3 gig of ram and 500gb harddrive. (Just in case thats useful)
Also i'm assuming my pc has a pci-e slot, i have a 8600 gt atm and could that go into anything else?

400w psu is most likely pushing it, but I'm not sure what a 4770 needs to survive? I'll go do some reading and report back
