been getting the newsletter for this for a while, and applied for beta access ages ago. Just seen it's up on steam for pre-order, with access to the beta.

It looks really interesting, reminds me of Tribes 2 (which i loved)

Cant afford it atm (xmas cash-flow issues), but if anyone gets into the beta can you post impressions?

Beta is coupled with a NDA. While I doubt they surf the internet looking for people posting about the game, writing stuff in a public forum, with my steam account (which is linked with the game) in my signature doesn't sound like a good idea.

I've bought the game on steam now, which comes with beta access. Will have to wait until I go back up to Sheffield before i can play (Remote desktop'd in earlier and downloaded it )

Reviews I've read say it's a very TF2 like experience, only with jetpacks and a persistent world. Fights for teritory are done by splitting your clan into multiple 8-10 man squads each of which enters a PvP instance against another squad.

Character levels don't matter too much apparently, low levels can solo kill higher levels if they are more skilled, and the levelling process only takes around 20 hours total anyway.

Character levels don't jetpacks too much apparently, jetpacks levels can solo jetpacks higher levels if they are jetpacks skilled, and the JeTPacKs JET-PAAAACKS jetpacks only takes JETPACKS 20 JETPACKS total JETPACKS.

Sounds a bit like what Planetside should of been with jetpacks instead of tanks

Played a couple of hours last night, Great fun once I figured out how to get ranged weapons and other loadout options (click the EMPTY boxes on your char screen!). Did quite a few PvE missions, theres a nice autogrouper that groups you with 3 other people.
The four classes are medic, sniper, assault and engineer.

 Not done any of the PvP mission types (You queue for them, like battlegrounds in WoW, but they were meddling with the PvP queueing system tonight), but i've done PvP using the "VR Arena" which is an ongoing team deathmatch with around 10 per side, every time you respawn you are autobalanced (enemies always appear as red) so you can just drop in and play while waiting for a the mission queue to find you a group.

It plays out a bit like fast paced TF2, only your character is more versatile. whenever you spawn you can change your loadout, reminds me a bit of counterstrike, only instead of money you just have a fixed amount of points. With these you fill up 9 slots on your Hotbar with various things, melee, two weapons, and 5 slots for special items that are on cooldowns. The choice of weapons items unlocks as you level up. Every item has 4 ranks, so you can't afford to fill up all 9 slots with max rank items, you need to budget.
The cooldowns remind me of an MMO duel, you have a few more options for tactical use than you do in TF2.

So far it's been good fun, can't wait to play it in with a clan.

In summary, it's like WoW battlegrounds and abilities mixed with TF2 mixed with Tribes.

Yeah, but is it really an MMO? Like in open worlds and some story behind it? So I can just run around and discover the world? Or is it just a glorified deathmatch lobby/chat room with some 10vs10 servers as I've seen too many times in the past already?

This, as far as I can tell. So it depends how well the combat holds up.

Aw, that's too bad. APB might be a change for this, the "deathmatch" levels in that one are for 100 people instead of 20. I hope they make it work.

It seems interesting but I can't see there's enough stuff to make the 'paid' MMO side of things work, so I'm not convinced the game will be a success. With no conventional questing I'm not sure what kind of events they're going to come up with.

The game has optional monthly pay.

Out of the top of my head: If you pay monthly you can participate in the conquest, without it's "just" tf2 with jetpacks.
