I have a problem while building the new setup last night on boot the system tells me that not CPU fan is detected and as a result wont boot. I got round this by setting the bios to ignore all errors as the CPU only runs at 35C. However I don't think it is a good idea to keep it ignoring all errors.
Does anyone know a way i can tell the system its using a fanless heatsink and there for no CPU fan should be plugged in.

Plug one of the case fans into the cpu fan slot?

Ah, so much for my bright idea, anyone know what the 4th wire does?

4th wire is PWM (speed control) signal - I *think* you can use pins 1-3 normally and a 3 pin header.

Sounds like you need a better mobo! lol (or maybe a BIOS update).

I think the extra wire is used as a pulse to check that the fan is working...which is what's causing you to get the error because you've got nothing plugged into it. I would hope there is a bios setting that allows you to configure the warning.

Or alternatively...stick a fan on that heatsink of yours. If noise isn't an issue with your pc then it'll help reduce temps a bit more (get a better overclock?) or if noise is an issue just get a cheap fan controller and set the speed really low.

noise is not really an issue as the case has soundproofing in it, well no the side panels any way. I will 3dmark it tonight and see how the results pan out. Its not getting full performance yet as its in xp so only shows 3gb of ram rather than the 6 in tri channel. Cant wait for win 7 to arrive next month and hopefully i will have a new gc by then too. Ill see if i can disable monitoring of the cpu fan in bios maybe if plugging a dif fan in does not work
