I'm so excited, SSD here today ... I couldn't sleep last night, spent the whole time reading tweak guides and streamlining my vista install in preparation for a (hopefully) hassle free clone.

I've not been this bad since the Night before Broadband.


Anyone else get like this over new toys or am I just a freak?

I once killed two PCs within 5 Minutes (I'm NOT telling that story). Not entirely my fault, it all started with a faulty PSU. Sad Since that accident, I don't get giddy about new parts anymore. They're just all too happy going up in smoke leaving you with no proper entertainment device for weeks.

So far, So good:


Having my first go at cloning over my vista install, Anticipating headaches since the source partition is larger than target (actual data should fit though)

I couldn't shrink the source partition much either because the stupid MFT information is fragmented over it and can't be moved.

For comparison. Here is my 150Gb Raptor and 1Tb Caviar Green. They say a velociraptor is approximately 35% quicker than the Raptor I think...but I'm not sure if seek times would be any better.

The raptor is obviously my OS drive, and the two spikes are from opening the start menu & HLSW.

Well the only "real world" benchmarks I can point you to are the ones in the article I posted. But there is no benchmark suitable for your "real world" usage. But when you compare the article taking 31 seconds to load vista (?), photoshop, (and something else) whereas it takes around 7 seconds on the SSD's that's a fairly good example that it'll be significantly quicker.
