Been banging on about these for a while, and after getting fed up with the loading times on my comp after building an SSD based machine for a mate I've gone against my own plans and splashed £170 on an 80GB Intel G2 which should arrive on Friday.

Downloading my legal free copy of Win 7 Pro from my university MSDNAA overnight, which is what i plan to run it on.

I'm planning to make a couple of Youtube vids so i can show you what a difference it makes (comparing my old Vista install on Mechanical to the new Win 7 on Solid State)

Best that I might be able to manage is to clone the old drive over onto the ssd, and take a vid. Hopefully I can prune enough stuff off it to fit. I'll see how it goes.
I Don't really want to wipe the old install.

Let me know if there's anything in particular you want compared, was going to show Windows boot into a usable firefox window, TF2 load time and an ARMA2 level load.

Nowhere near as big as my cache in RAM Smiley... no doubt the rest of his system is pretty decent, so having a RAM versus SSD comparison gives some idea of the relative performance gain.

Damn, I was looking at those a couple of days ago when they were at £155 (inc postage) Decided to spend £15 more and get the g2 2.5" that supports TRIM and will fit in my laptop without hassle, but i'd have snapped up the x-18 at £135 even if it meant selotaping it in place.

Certainly taught me a lot about SSD's and the current market. If I had been paid by now I probably would have sprung for the 1.8" £130 pounds one, but after reading that article I'll have to wait and go for the G2 for an extra £40 or so.

I'm looking to get one for when my copy of Win 7 comes along to make things super speedy. I was thinking about getting a velociraptor (I have a Raptor, but according to the everest benchmark I did the speed it very similar to my 1Tb caviar black) but considering the 300Gb version is almost the same price...and I only really need it as an OS drive I'll probably go for an SSD come October.
