but what makes me sad is the look on achievement_idle servers...full....full...full, great job valve, you really solved the problem

i do agree achievement servers are a bigger evil than idling. They were originally tolerated by valve so people didn't moan about having to earn items. But now the drop system is in place, and unlocks take less achievements, theres not any point cheating for achievements

what i ment was that servers with a map named achievement_idle are made for idling, not for earning achievements

So it looks like achievement boxes of any variety get to stay which is stupid whats the difference?

my point is just that if people want to idle, they will do it also without help of external tools

i don't think its fair to draw the line at external tools. either punish everyone idling or let them all off with a warning but distinguishing between the two forms of idling is a really unclear message. Were you punished for using an external program? or for exploiting idling? the message i can see in peoples backpacks is your account has been flagged for circumventing the item distibution system. which is exactly what anyone in an achievement/idle box is doing.

yup i lost my 3 hats and my cloak and dagger, luckily pretty much everything else was earn't.

Not dissapointed at hats as they were all classes i didn't play so hey never got used.

Mama is asleep so i will have much joy in telling him his backpack is now nuked to 5 items in the morn.

I'm sorry valve, but if (for example) any western power institutes a law, rule or statute, they know that they cannot punish any instances of it happening in the past. Changing the rules half way through the game and then punishing people for not knowing is out of order! I think a re-think is needed quickly!

looking at how many backpacks have been cleared, (whilst idle boxers are untouched) i'm starting to agree that valve have gone about this all wrong.

Better warning should have been given (last time they did something like this they cleared my medic achievements, then gave me all of them to say sorry which was worse than clearing them :/).
Idle boxes should have been targeted with equal measures.
And this was all about hats, why have peoples entire inventories been cleared, they should have left it at deleting farmed hats.

I agree completely with Chaos. Perhaps if valve, when they first learned of the idle tool, had put a post on their blog asking people not to idle then this decision might have been justified.

Despite all understandable frustration: This is rubbish and people doing this should be kicked off servers.

To be honest I'm not sure what the problem is. I never idled and my backpack is full with shit and I even got a pyro hat, why would I care?

Remeber that all this is happening over some VIRTUAL "ITEMS" which have no effect on the game. This is like killing someone for some fucking sword in WoW (happened in South Korea, but not because of WoW), but with even less reason behind it. The hats are meaningless. Would you pay for them if Valve asked you to, so you could have them without having to use their stupid system?

Chill out everyone, you'll get your hats eventually and even if you don't what does it matter? It's just a couple of pixels on your head.

My hat is gone  Good thing I don't play spy much.  Still have everything else in my backpack though.

It would of been nice for Valve to say something about idle servers not being allowed.

Oh well, easy come easy go....
