Nope, my 8800gtx is on air, and i have pretty much perfect stability in Vista x64.

Okay, gone with Ripsaws suggestion because A. It's not too bad a price at all, B. I'd love to see what I can do with 1.5GB of VRAM doing some programming. C. even if it is noisy, it won't be as bad as my ATI card I have right now, and my system is noisy enough anyway, heh. D. It'll be faster then my old card, from the specs I can see, even depending on various things my old one was, well, old!

I think the amount of ram may be a typo (a common thing with e-buyer)

it lists all the cards in the XFX9600 GSO line and there isnt a 1.5gb listing

something to think about - They dont actually make single GPU solution cards with more than 1GB as far as I know (other than QuadroFX/FireGL cards, but they SUCK at gaming) so I think that was talking about SLI (as most of the blurb seems to be pointing that way and seems to be ripped off of the XFX site which focuses on these cards for SLI)

hmm, you'll want to be on a 64 bit OS if you're chucking a 1500 MB ram graphics card in there, or you'll be sacrificing a fair chunk of your main RAM.

also, sure you arn't tempted by ATi?

The ATI card will be much better, even if you do have to "suffer" the ATI drivers..
and its 512MB of GDDR5! not that DDR2 crap the 9600 cards come with

No ATI. I've already brought that one, and yes, I was tongue in cheek about 1.5GB of VRAM, I doubt the specs are correct but for some reason the manufacturers site doesn't have them either.

In any case, it's cheap, I'll get a brand new system in a year or so and properly upgrade (3 monitors, so need SLI or Crossfire), I still won't likely go ATI, for another reason I remembered - nVidia has properly black-barred resizing of resolutions so I can play square games properly, while ATI never has on any older cards, although I don't know about newer ones, it seemed annoying that it required the monitor to do it (which mine don't).

Any idea if they've added that option in now? It is most annoying for any square content to have it stretched

Well, ATI make modern cards like NVIDIA, I've had newer NDVIDIA and ATI cards and both have been very capable.

I've only gone ATI recently on price and performance - very impressed to. Software quality seems excellent as well - can't keep punishing a firm for a bad experience years ago? Maybe I'd avoid Intel for a crappy P4 that over heated?

And I been using either Vista Home premium x86/x64 or Ultimate X64 since the day vista came out
They mainly come from the drivers making the cards overheat (which is a vista thing)

possibly I've had the problem for ages heat has been some peoples problems but not everyones....

There are loads of fixes people have got to work but not all work on every pc... and theres loads that remain unsolved... mine being one

Problem is there is no viable alternative to intel currently lol

End of the day both gpus are good and you'll either get issues or you wont.....
