My guess is that r007 is running XP x86 and Junta is running Vista X64..

Looking at the rigs the outcome looks about right..

Well luckily thats the main advantage of computers over things such as children and pets. There is no law against hitting them around a bit if they annoy you.

Make sure it's insured before you hit it.

It may be time for a Windows reinstall, you have a better spec than me yet worse performance though perhaps Vista and the resolution aren't helping.

Try more RAM, it's cheap enough.

Edit: Are you sure your resolution is correct, doesn't sound right to me.

Okay, well, it's indeed 3DMark Vantage, on Vista x86. So results should be comparable. Most of the CPU points seem to stem from pure CPU clock though, and my 3.0GHz aren't that bad.
Speaking about Benchmarks, my Windows index thingie is 4.8 if that's of any interest to you people.

Anyways, a whole Windows reinstall is exactly what I wanted to avoid, seeing as I'm already running on the Backup system (b/c my XP broke when trying to SP3 it).

I like HeX's idea though. Hand me the Weißbier and my Cluebat!

Also RAM is a thing I will be looking into, because the way it is right now it's not running DualChannel... Since DRAM prices are pretty much as low as can be right now I might as well suck it and buy some.

And shamelessly replying to my own thread, NO, the complete config removal did not help all too much.

This is bugging the hell out of me, really. I'm already half expecting the network card interrupt interfering with the graphics or something esoteric of sorts. *mumble* *grumble* Maybe I should really just reinstall XP...

the 3dMark score looked about right, and the css bench wasn't too bad.
Can you try running your own server on the local machine and running around by yourself, see if performance is still terrible.
I'd say complete wipe of TF2 and redownload.

That's exactly what I just did. And guess what: Instead of 9-30 fps (WDG server) I get 30-90 fps (local game). Which is still sound within the other observations.

I guess I will be kicking the NIC driver in the shins next.

Have you tried a different server yet?

Check that tcp/ip offload is enabled in the network card properties (google can guide you).

If that fails, and you've tried latest drivers for your NIC, might be worth picking up a decent Intel or Broadcom NIC on ebay. I got one for a tenner, pretty cheap.

One other thing you may wish to check is to play with the PCI-E payload size in bios, I've had that cause issues with nic's in the past ... can't remember if i needed it on max or min setting though so experiment.

Yup - tried a different server. Made no difference.

Well, upgrading the NIC drivers helped. Now I'm in the range of 18-60 fps on WAN play. Not great, but at least playable.

Best thing: I know the root cause for my problems. Hell, I'll just go grab the next Intel NIC I fall over at the chair and be done with it.

€dit: Also, TCP offload (aka "Chimney offload") was disabled somehow. I'll see if it helps. (For future reference, the HOWTO is here)

+1 For Hex and Burnalot. Moral support counts too and kicking hardware always makes you feel better... until you break a toe or realise that the PC is broken

I just checked mine - and it was disabled for me too! Have enabled and see if I get any performance gains too...

I've had a look on the laptop which runs "Vista Home premium". "Chimney" was also disabled. Set it to "enabled" now. Along with "autotuninglevel" set to "Restrictive". So I've set that to "Normal". Should be interesting to see what this does, although the laptop doesn't get used for gaming.

Would it be worth installing XP? Or how about giving Windows 7 RC a go? I know the Windows 7 isn't realy that good an option as it's only a limited licence and will only work for a couple of months. Humm - scratch that plan, I'm talking rubish.
