Also, I personally didn't like any of the new scout weapons, even though I rarely play scout. They all just appear to be mildly irritating rather than particularly useful, so I'll have to agree with Hzza on this one.
Edit (mode's post below): I didn't look at it that way. If that was the meaning, then I'd have to agree again! My bad.

I think Brahms suggestions were intended to indicate that one would
only
use the Axtinguisher. It was a fail in that the unlocks were supposed to be alternatives, not complete replacements.

What Mode said. An unlock that's never used or always used is a fail in my book. And I haven't seen someone wielding a regular axe in about the same amount of time i've seen someone with the default medic gun.
The scout update was perfectly cromulent, Bonk doesnt get used much, but it still gets used. FaN seems more plausible since tehy beefed it up too.

Well the updates of the pyro and medic were cleary meant to make the classes stronger, afaik that was even admitted by valve.

The way I see it re the scout thing, the sandman (as annoying as it was) was useful before they nerfed it into oblivion, the FaN is now useful that it's been buffed and the bonk drink is probably the most retarded unlock ever and has probably maybe 1 or 2 situational uses. If you have to nerf/buff 2/3 of the new unlocks post release, and render the other one pretty much useless from the start, you've done something wrong. Also, I know this wasn't ever promised but is kind of expected these days, there were no new maps (just some communities ones [I'm not counting the arena map as its so rarely played it doesn't really make it worth mentioning]), there was no "Meet the......" video and there were only releases on 5 days (as opposed to 6 or 8 in the previous/next update).
I wasn't talking about the just the unlocks when I said it was a fail update, I meant the whole thing felt like a total let down; almost completely the opposite to the more recent "spyper" update that was a frenzy of rumor and speculation. I know you guys will probably say something about "taking the updates for granted" and "we don't have to pay for it" and all that stuff, but you do still feel short changed when such a limp release comes out.

Cruel, I class Kritz as one of the most successful unlocks, because it and Uber get used fairly evenly, and have their own separate uses.
I think you're right about the pyro and medic updates being to make the classes stronger/more interesting, and I can see how they needed it. But the fact remains that the unlocks don't really provide any real choice. IMO they should have perhaps buffed the bonesaw/needlegun/fireaxe to make them a bit more threatening in a vanilla sort of way.

Certainly some weapons are replaced entirely, in my opinion the Blutsauger, Übersaw, Cloak and Dagger (seriously not going back to trying to find ammo), K.G.B., and quite possibly the Axtinguisher and Ambassador, although they're slightly situational.
Just wait until the prime offensive classes are changed (Demo, Soldier), along with the Engineer, to see what pretty much not used much or is just total replacement - these 3 classes live on their core weaponry, although the sniper is close (the Huntsman is man, just not for me personally, very situational).

And actually it's too much praise. My knowledge into the game is not larger than that of most people here - actually in a lot of details even smaller.
Since I have no life I can spend some time on writing all this stuff up (if I would spend even half that much time on practicing TF2 I wouldn't be so rubbish).
But thanks a lot and I'm happy that I'm able to provide some interesting opinions.
(Sigh, struggling right now with two fairly huge articles which I have to get right, since both topics are important
