As you all might (or might not depending on what team you are on) know I am complaining about lag and as I can no longer blame is on the server, I think my rig might be bust

Well, my rig is a Dell Dimension 9150 with some slight modefications to the graphic card (NVIDIA GeForce 6800) and Ram amount (I think standard was 1 GB and I have 2 GB) [Can anyone tell me where to find the specs...I am terrible at this...sorry:(]

My budget is...let's say around 300 pounds (If my math is correct) any good ideas?

Firstly, the TF2 engine IS getting more demanding on the client - with the L4D changes being ported over. With that, I'm amazed that you're getting reasonable framerates with the 6800!! Even a budget card could replace it (depending upon the room in the case and the power supply).

Check these out with DELL and see if a cheap ATI / NVidia card could be made to work? I'm sure it will be better?

Yeah, you need to tell us your specs. AGP card or PCI-E? What type of motherboard? 2GB of RAM is more then enough for framerates too.

Likely it is the graphics card and a highly budget one would be better as Junta says

yea you got enough ram... speed of the ram isnt really that important...
just need to know what CPU you have.. and what mobo so we can best help with graphics card choice...
you should be able to get a decent cpu and graphics card for 300 quid.. but thats assuming your mobo and PSU are up to the upgrade ... failing that.. you could budget for a new PSU and lower the spec of the graphics card... (selling the old parts on ebay is a good way to help fund the new parts.. theres always someone who wants an old working graphics card for a work/word processing machine ect..)

If yout mobo is a problem then you may have to get a 7800AGP or similar (still capable of running tf2 and L4D as my friend still uses one for l4d and css)

Well I am ATM running L4d without problems only problems I am experiencing is low FPS in TF2.

About my specs, well right now I am at school so getting anything from my computer would be a problem but even if I was at home I would not really know where to look and what to look for.

Google Dell Dimension 9150 (this should be roughly the same as the one I have (I did change some stuff when I bought it but not much))

I'd say if the RAM and the CPU are ok, look at replacing and upgreading your graphics card and may be the PSU.

With a small power supply like that, maybe you'd be considering an ATI budget card:

The 4670 is nothing near the modern monsters, but it is already similar to my ATI 3850 in terms of TF2 performance. Its a crippled card compared to the other 4850 and 4870 range provided by ATI (I think that 4670 has less memory bandwidth than these better cards).

However: Its dirt cheap, has low power requirements, and as far as I recall, doesn't even need its own power cable either (powered via PCI Express slot). PLUS - it will suit your standard size monitor (i.e. not huge resolution). This is around £65 not including delivery in the UK - not sure how much it would work out for you in "Dane land" (as someone called it last night).

Well I think I can manage a good price on almost anything though my dad or though a Danish site.

I could also order from UK but I doubt that it will be necessary.

Found a place to buy the 4670 (512mb) so should I order it and say "this be my upgrade!"?

The new Ati 4830 is meant to be a vey good mid range card for under £100

No doubt you'll be able to get it cheaper in Denmark as the £ to $ exchange rate is pretty awful at the moment

Sorry Mark, I missed the £300 budget requirement.

I'd say that you'd be silly to spend that on the DELL though - its a bit like polishing a turd tbh (no offence). You'd burn up the cash and end up with something mediocre if you stick with the existing Dell (lack of room, no real upgrade path).

I'd be spending the minimum to get the extra FPS - so for me it means a choice of Graphics card, hard disk or memory.

I know Dell is shit but 3-4 years ago when I bought a pretty expensive computer from them nobody was there to warn me!
