I had two 17'' tfts for quite some time now, and one finally gave up after 6 years, so I am looking for a new (single) screen, preferably 24''. I had the BENQ V2400W in mind, any suggestions/experiences on your side?

Damn! I've got two 19" Samsungs. Haven't really had anything to compare them to though

I'm using a Samsung (22") and I love it. I'm no expert on these things but I'd happily have another.

I watch TV and movies on my PC in bed using my 22" Samsung.  But I have to turn and prop the screen forward using a book if I don't the colours are all very washed out.  I Never had that problem with my 20" LG.

I'm sure you're right about the viewing angle, it's just that they seem to be decent screens apart from that.

I didn't have a spare book so I cut 2 inches off the front two legs of the chest of drawers

I got one of these for £200 inc delivery and VAT last year, seen them even lower if you froogle around :

It uses a P-MVA panel, which means great viewing angles and contrast, the panel (most important internal bit) in this is the same type as in the 24" dells and in fact the exact same model thats in some of the £3-400 Benqs etc, so image quality is great. Response rates are listed as 6ms, and i've not noticed any ghosting or input lag in games.
Where they skimped is the outsides, the power LED is so bright you need to tape over it, the plastic is cheap (looks fine, but don't touch it) and the stand isn't very adjustable (tilt only)

All in all, it's still unbeatable for the price, don't even consider one of the TN based panels at this size, the screen is big enough that angles from your head to the edges of the screen will make you see contrast shifts, like if you tilt a laptop screen.

6ms response time isn't very good for games.  Should be around 2-3ms or you will notice slight ghosting.

**Never mind if Zarf doesn't notice it then it looks like a great buy.

6ms is fine, like i said, i've not noticed any ghosting at all.
Besides, you can only get faster response rates if you go TN, which really isn't worth it for the hit to image quality.

In one of the reviews I read for it the guy bought it in Germany. It might even be a German manufacturer/brand.

I use a samsung t26... which is a 25.5 inch...
I have had 5 people crowding round and everyone was fine... i think it depends which screen you buy....
but i have heard good things about the BenQ stuff
and viewing angle isnt that important for games as your sat dead on the screen for the most part!

My advice on screens is stick to 1920 x 1200 res. Anything higher pushes you into uber vid card territory and you don't need that (although I understand the latest nVidia drivers allow multi monitors with SLI which is a big fix for me).

I think there's a 27 or 28 incher that's native at 1920 so I'd go for that if the rest of the specs stand up. There is simply no substitute for screen acreage.
