  • Songs For The Deaf - Queens Of The Stone Age
Do like, good shout, Mosquito Song pwns, Rated R is better though.
  • Myths Of The Near Future - Klaxons
Never heard of them, will try it later
  • Absolution - Muse
NOOOOOOO
  • Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
Never heard of them, will try it later.
  • Is This It - The Strokes
Fuck the Strokes, more depressing the Brahms, more boring then Gordon Brown.

quite honestly it was a toss up between rated r or songs for the deaf but i went with the latter out of personal preference. tension head is one of my fave tunes

also i like the strokes, but i also like brahms' blog Cheesy

Having a post five times bigger than what I wrote is hardly summarizing. Wink But yeah, I guess there is a webcomic for everything. I just wish we'd still communicate with words (like in the good old times, you know? none of this fancy shmancy photoshop meme bullshit!)

Yeah, I didn't mean summarised Power, I meant something else. Not sure what. Depicted maybe.

Also Laz, Tension head by QotSA = 13th Floor by Mondo Generator. Much more hard/raw/savage version. I prefer it, might be worth checking out.

had no idea it was just a re-recording Shocked

checked it out and, though similar, i think i prefer the faster pace on tension head and the cleaner sound

Sorry but the Strokes are one of the most boring bands iv'e heard, with the exceptions of Reptilia and Juicebox.

Klaxons really isn't a 'defining' album, it started the most retarded movement ever seen is this country known as 'nu-rave' which for about 4 months spawned the most retarded children with the worst fashion sense all in the name of being individual. I think Topshop was the only thing to benefit from this attrocity.

Your'e all overlooking the fact that it's the really big-mainstream bands such as Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys that will be the things our kids secretly listen to, they'll be the next Guns and Roses - anything that can slip under the radar now will be forgotten in the next 10 years.

And that's not all the music flame I can produce! Whoever says the 90's was a golden age for music needs a slap, the most it produced was the creation of the rave scene and perhaps early trance, other than that it was the hangover of the 'worst night of your life' which was the 80's. Alot of bands originated then, e.g. Rammstein, but they never became popular until the end of the decade or the transition away from the 90's sound in 2000.

Modern music is fantastically better these days on average than what people remember, the problem is that people are tired of the 'perfect' recording and sound quality coupled with the catchy hooks many of the bands use these days (take a look at pop rock, Fallout Boy anyone?). People look back to the 80's when there was a degree of imperfection in the music, which added to the sensation of it. It's stereotypical, over the top in a way that just makes you go 'lol, good song iz good'.

Not saying the 80's or 90's were a bad period so to speak, releatively speaking the quality has remained constant throughout the past 40 years :>

Tell that to the autotuned bullshit that runs wild in the top 100. Kings of Leon... bad enough, but if only! If anything, it will be the fricking Timbaland or Black Eyed Peas that will be spinning in our CD players on the "Best of 2000s" sampler bought off a TV shopping channel for only $99.99 sometime in the year 2050. Which is a shame, but that's the way it is

nu rave is bull shit and you know it, its not like they are the band out there promoting that stupid fashion. thats just the fuck wits who read NME cashing in on that. i think their album is important (despite that NOT being the purpose of the list) because it brought a genre of instrumental and electronic music fusion into the mainstream. British electro has always been amazing but it just needed something breakthrough to get people listening, vis a vi Klaxons.

Your'e all overlooking the fact that it's the really big-mainstream bands such as Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys that will be the things our kids secretly listen to, they'll be the next Guns and Roses - anything that can slip under the radar now will be forgotten in the next 10 years.

kings started amazingly and then nose dived to the awful latest album. they may be mainstream but that sadly only happens when a band produces something so banal that stupid people can sing along to (sex on fire anyone). and the monkeys became famous from myspace so enough said there.

its not about whats popular so much as what is good. there is a point in every decade when an explosion of new bands and music comes along as a reaction to something else. but that becomes less and less important all the time as music becomes more accessible.

there never was a golden age of music , only changing tastes and diversification.

Good music in no way means it will necessarilly be remembered mate and im sure you realise that. I used the examples of those two bands as theyv'e had unprecedented popularity, which is likely to continue for quite a while.

Look at Abba, they're fucking terrible but really popular.

 But also...

also fuck fall out boy, fuck them in their stupid asses

 THIS, 100%.

 But yeah power..

Tell that to the autotuned bullshit that runs wild in the top 100.

My point entirely. It's good in the production sense, not necessarily audibly. Though I am a fan of alot of this music :>

Sad fact of the music industry is that for every "shit" band that makes it, 100 "good" bands will fall by the wayside. Shit, in an industry where a douchebag like Vanilla Ice or every Jack Johnson/Coldplay rip-off* gets a number 1 single, what chance do the genuinly talented musicians have of succeeding? Can I also point out N-Dubz?!

The ONLY marginally good thing about the current wave of chart music is that a) boy/girl bands, whilst still being popular, are coming around less and less, b) actual guitar/instrument based music is coming to the fore again (thank fuck the garage/rave scene died on its arse) and c) all the douchebag boring guitar/instrument based bands seem to be encouraging more and more people to pick up instruments and actually learn to play them, hopefully opening the new learners to new and actually important bands/genres of music. Whilst I don't like the music, I like the fact that people upon hearing it, will delve a little deeper and might just find something with a bit more soul/substance.

If I had my way, the Old Grey Whistle Test would still be operating and I would be hosting it...Whispering Tom Harris and his unique look into underground/alternative music. I'd get 1,000,000 viewers and buy a SEEEEGA DREEEEAMCAST.

*"Singer/song-writters" should have their arms and tongues removed, by me and 4 horses. I have NEVER encountered a more dull, benile, lifeless and STERILE type of music in my life and would gladly commit war-crimes against everyone playing "laid back, accustic melodies". I lump Coldplay and their ilk in this group as I feel the same way about their music as the S/SW'ers.

Last year I saw one of those stupid "best music of 2009" - shows and I was shocked what BS music is "the best music of.."

Got into some good hardcore bands. I like the genre, you can't make very much money, and some/most of those bands aren't famous in Germany, so it's very interesting to see how it will develope in the future.
e.g. Trapped Under Ice

I don't listen to the radio, it makes me sick Grin

On the other hand I don't mind how they create their tunes in other genres, as long as I like it.

Double-edged sword though mate, they'll get the exposure to the music and maybe the desire to play it, but how many will acutally see it through? Once they realise that a degree of talent is needed, not just "LULZORNAGEBLUEGREENRED" I think they'd probably drop the shit pretty fast! Speculation is speculation though and I guess we'll see what happens, if nothing else, being exposed to the music is a step in the right direction.
