So I thought I should start a topic for the rig I am building, a place I can refer to to show how far I have gotten, also you can all laugh at my mistakes.

So here is how this started.

I was playing games on my laptop one night, and checked the time, it was about 1am, not night anymore. Packing up my laptop each time I've finished to go to bed sure does get to be tedious. So the idea of getting my old pc up to scratch was born. After doing about 30 seconds of research, I found that there is really no point, it's 10 years old runs 512mb ram, and has a graphics card running at 64mb, yes 64.

So it started.

I got bored after taking it to bits, so rewired this xbox controller to usb

And that is the end of the strip down chapter, next up, designs and new parts.

Just a heads up for when you're rebuilding, be careful of static building up. Broke my old 8800gt card with what static I made by kneeling on the carpet.

So, design is "If I asked people what they had wanted, they would have said "Faster horses."

And that is how design works.

So, I started with the idea that I wanted a rusty looking pc, with abit of a rat rod theme to it. after deciding that I didn't want to strip all the paint, that idea fell fell off my list. However, I still wanted to have a computer that looked awful, old and slow, but underneath was actually a decent pc.

So I came up with my design inspiration, my brothers old landrover. With this idea I did a drawing while attending work, and have been working from there.

The last picture is of the side of my pc, instead of having 4 holes with 2 fans, and 2 mesh guards, I opted for 2 fans and one large mesh guard. The fans were to be a set of old notebook coolers, that plugged into the usb, but hard wired into something.

However, after getting some parts today, I have found out that my new mother board and cooler is slightly large than my previous.

Just a note to take mind to, that motherboard is slightly bigger, about 2.5 inchs in lenght, about half an inch wider, and say 4 inches taller. So much taller that it is the same as the case. 7 inches tall.

More drawing is required. But until then, I'm reading my manual.

Why not do the same as if you're trying to fit a V8 in a fiesta and make a 'power bulge' in the side panel. 

Alternatively drape a rug over the side.

Ah yes, the old, 'will my new motherboard, CPU and cooler fit in my old case' issue

Was anyone else disappointed to find this thread was actually about a PC build and not a guide to gaming carpets? I thought a brave new world of accessories was pending...

Gaming carpets? Okay, this could go in either direction: something along the lines of a Dance Dance Revolution mat; or, well, you know what they used the REZ accessory for...

Either way, sounds promising!

I have actually got a gaming rug, that is where I got the idea of this topic, I used to have it under my chair and table, but it got moved to under my draws, and it's just hidden there for a few months.

Got an update to do on this, but everytime I feel like doing it I have no internet, and when I do, I'm about to go to bed.

So here is the update to my thing.

So I did some stuff on it, then decided I hatted it and scrapped it. So disapointed about the way it looked in green I just scrapped it, no pics, sorry.

But I was looking at diffent cases anyways, on friday I looked at a second hand case that was again going to be too small.

I found one on gumtree for £20 but it looked like it had been round the world more times than the moon. Looked aweful.

So my I took a visit to maplins to view some cases they had in a refurb condition, And I found it, The one, It had my name written all over it. But it was also over £100, So That is where it stayed. I then stumbled across another case, Different.

Here are some pics after I started putting parts in.

Small engines made from K'nex both with V formation one is a 6 cylinder and one is an 8.

As I type I have a inline 4 infront of me.

It's got a window in the side too and I put some coloured lights in to make it look fab.

The engine things are lovely. What are they for?
