We need to make a decision this week really if we want to avoid renewing on the dedicated for another month

When Deadly contacted them, he got the most helpful and rapid response from Hiperz, so we're trying them. They have servers in NL and France.

Yesterday and today we've been testing Server 1, sited in Holland (Hiperz offered to set up a couple of servers for us to test; good service there).

It makes sense that people feedback any observations here. My ping seems to be okay but we did experience at least one lag spike this evening.

I was going to join ye tonight but by the time I noticed ye were doing stuff and connected (I had been planning my mission to Duna in KSP) ye had left...

Minor lags at the beginning, massive spike later on (twice?)
ping was great for me, but I think we had people >70? Not sure
I had pretty regular single digit choke. Not sure if that is normal/acceptable.

Should be noted that the server was nowhere near to full load

ping was about what I normally get on the WDG servers (40-45 range) during our shenanigans yesterday but I did have the same issues that cruelcow mentioned

All i noticed was the one major lag spike, and that my ping was hovering around the 20 area, so it was great, i sometimes have trouble connecting to close servers.

We fed back about the lag spikes. It might have been a hardware fault, apparently a storage disk died that evening and they needed to do repair work.

But anyway, the service from Hiperz has continued to be good (a hardware problem is just one of those things) so we'll try them and see how it goes, feeding back here. We'll swap over either next week or the week after in good time for Fragfest.

The old server 1 is down for some unknown reason. Deadly said he'll be taking a look. Maybe it's heard we're getting another and has taken the opportunity to just give up.

If you use server.wdgclan.co.uk to connect, nothing will change (ports have remained the same)

net_graph showed pretty constant single digit choke, but gameplay wise everything was fine for me.

Except the dangerous doors, but from what I understand that's Valve fault and not a lag issue.

Single digit choke is not a problem from what I understand. I think choke happens, when the server cannot receive the data packets (controlled by your rate variables) at the speed your client is sending it. What happens then is, the server doesn't have the most current position for you when synching the happenings on the map. Since it was so low, the netcode prediction probably did a good job guessing where you are at any point to make up for it. Remember that you are sending many data packets per second, so <10 loss would be a percentage that the netcode can handle without weird things happening.

Still seems okay though Geezer accidently shut down the server last night!

Yes. All us server admins have a great red button on our screens marked DO NOT PRESS so, of course what did Geezer do   At least he didn't press the one marked DO NOT PRESS, EVER.

One thing, my ping was higher than it has been. It was okay last week and on Tuesday so it might just have been a thing. I'll keep an eye on it anyway..everyone else seemed fine. I know when my ping gets above 50 I have to adjust.

Berath - with your ping, if you do have any issues then work through the hiperz ping test thing - that way they might be able to do some clever things to make it better for you.

I'd say they're grand. They seem stable enough (when Geezer doesn't push the big red button). Other than Berath, I haven't seen anyone with any particular ping problems (Geezer is still a bot).
