Does anyone know any sheet metal / metal part fabricators that would do a one-off (for now) run of some parts I need making? It's mostly sheet metal - up to 1m by 2m for a few pieces and a few smaller machined pieces.

I've been in touch with a few but none of them have really got back to me so I'm kinda struggling to get the parts done. Preferably in the midlands but if they'll deliver the parts then I'm not too bothered where.

Just thought I'd ask in case anyone knows of any companies?!

Only local ones we use for work sorry.

The most Midlands-ish one we've used is used are these guys. I'd rather not link our actual supplier as the address would pretty much help you find where I work, etc. Tongue

I think our two definitions of sheet metal may be different anyway.

I'm thinking folded parts - I'm guessing you need an actual supplier of flat metal sheets? I'll check with our fabricator tomorrow if you want? What material (Aluminium I presume? Steel is cheaper, although it is a fair bit heavier) with a rather thin gauge? (Thickness)

No folded parts - it's all flat sheet metal with cut-outs / drill holes etc. (hence laser cut parts?) I'd like a price for aluminium and steel because I don't really know what the difference in price would be. I think the pieces are 4mm / 2mm.

Hmmm.

If you're after cheap parts we tend to buy in either:
- 2.5mm Aluminium, or
- 1.6mm Mild Steel

We tend to buy these in as they're the cheaper/lighter option if it's for parts that aren't going to require strong structural integrity. (I'm talking strong enough for an M1 seating test here (20g).)


I'm not really up on my prices for them sorry.

The price doesn't jump up with a laser cut for holes either, not by a huge amount anyway. Without stating the obvious, a majority of the cost will come from the material itself. Bends and Welds are the biggest cost hike in sheet metal parts after that.

Yeah - it's been designed to have no bends/welds as I had a quote for the whole lot (design & manufacture) and it was an order of magnitude higher than I was expecting!
