We could do something like this; they have a similar plugin on the UKCS servers. It would let us see what people think
Feedback there, has been people would rather have the choices mapped to different keys to avoid the vote interferring with weapon changes.
Would the vote be admin-prompted, how would we do it?

So far these maps seem to be popular on various servers; they get voted in when they come up on the menu and people don't gripe and moan and start rtv'ing
pl_swiftwater_ugc koth_pro_viaduct_rc3 cp_snakewater pl_barnblitz_pro_rc2 cp_croissant_rc6 cp_process_rc2
Don't think any of them are too controversial.
I think they are all the right versions. Don't know if anyone else has any maps they think we should consider.

Just get an advanced map chooser plugin. Allows Vanilla maps only when the server is less than say 16/18 players and then when the player count is above said limit the custom maps can be included in map votes. Map ratings are an okay idea, although admins giving maps a weight in the votes would be better: Maps with a bigger weight will appear more often. Not sure though if Custom Maps are a good idea or not. As the quick play feature maybe disabled because of non-Vanilla elements (e.g. the custom map!). I've been looking at the prospect of getting and running a public server anyway - I don't mind getting it and maintaining it (Keeping TF2, maps and Sourcemod up to date). I say get my own as I know I won't be allowed FTP access to the server.

Yes, when a custom map is on, quickplay players are not directed to it which is why care needs to be taken re. frequency etc.
However, the thing is, when the server is at it's peak on Fridays, we aren't getting any quickplayer players anyway because the server is full and if a custom map is voted in, it's because people on the server want it so are unlikely to leave.
I just think these things are worth trying.

But then how many people will stay on to download and play the maps?
We've had this idea before with NuB and, granted the server was run by the wankers from Ipswich (They don't deserve their names being dropped...), we didn't have much success with it.

Well then we don't try it again.
It'll be just there as an option. It won't be on rotation. It seemed to have worked ok so far for Trigger Happy Gamers....they've just stared doing it and have got good feedback from their regs. It hasn't killed Grumpy Old Gits...they have the odd custom map and UKCS do as well.
I just think that at the moment we have a server that is only being used 2 hours a week and a forum where activity is gradually dying. We either try things or we don't.

the will people download the maps question isnt very helpful, its an initial problem for any custom maps server. If the population isn't interested they won't, if they are, the maps will gradually propagate through the community until its no longer a major problem because the core players have them all. It can also be smoothed over by keeping an up to date list of maps and download links and encouraging people to download them ahead of time.
Best way i think is just to go ahead and try it and keep that map list up to date.
And the nub custom server is no good example, a lot of people didnt play on that because they didnt want to be abused.

I'd like to try this as well. If fastdownload is set up properly getting a new map doesn't take too much extra time (this is my personal perspective, not playing from an SSD here). The proliferation effect sure is there and my gut feeling is that most of the regs would not press that cancel button.

I'll put up a poll for custom maps on Server 1 and see what comes up. Maximum three votes per person and votes can be changed.
A week should be long enough and people can always post further thoughts after that. If no-one votes I'll use feedback from votes/popular maps on other servers

We need to have snakewater added to !nominate. I can see it via the admin menu but people were saying they couldn't nominate it.

There are a number of maps that are on the server but not on the !nominate list.
These are
process egypt all the ctf maps steel hoodoo thundermountain koth_badlands koth_nucleus koth_sawmill
Some are dodgy, but some might be popular enough to be nominated and voted in.
Personally I think
process turbine steel koth_badlands koth_sawmill hoodoo thundermountain
but I'm not particularly attached to any of those, except perhaps process

I like process and I really like steel but this one tends to do awfully on pub servers since it requires a better knowledge of the map and more coordination than usually on tf2. I dislike plr maps. Everything else is "meh" for me, although I feel that koth maps do better when there are still few people on the server (when starting up or ending the night basically). It would be nice to have 2fort and hydro just for laughs once in awhile and to make omni and yonder happy.

I thought process was in the nominate list... It comes up reasonably often in the mapvote system anyway. I second TNG's opinions on steel. It's usually been grand on WDG in the past when we get some coordination going. As for the rest, most ctf maps aren't all that good, hoodoo is kinda like dutbowl with a cart so you can't even rush a backcap to end the misery and the others I'm somewhat ambivalent to (although if we put egypt in the rotation I would suggest admins actively prevent people from building sentries on top of the pillars) Also, obligatory hydro request
