Okay I have got the stv working on the FNR! server.

Given that it is only 2 slots and that mumble seemed to lag really badly when we tried to use delayed comms, what I am thinking might work is if we have Karthus and/or Burny streaming via twitch. I will then set the stv delay to 0 so that it is live. That way there is a scout stream and a soldier stream for those who want to watch those, and then either stream can be used for comms (will be in sync or pretty close - I can add a second or 2 delay if necessary) for the stv for those who want to watch there.

That way you can all sit in a mumble channel and chat amongst yourselves as well as hear and see what is going on.

For the stv pop this into console: connect 85.236.101.3:27025; password fnrtv

For our official matches I will need to run the STV on a 90 sec delay as that is a league rule.

Don't know how useful this would be but I found this training map for badlands rollouts

http://gamebanana.com/tf2/maps/131384

Could be handy for doing them again and again and again, especially for me!

If you're practising rollouts on a local server, make sure to set net_fakelag 20 to simulate ping.

Quick question. I wanted to watch some demos from ETF2l but they are in .dem format - Messing around it seems these are playable from Unreal Tournament? Is this right? Which version, and is there anything linux compatable I can play them in so I can watch on the laptop?

A quick search could probably tell you what to do with demos, anyway basically place the demo file in the \Steam\steamapps\username\team fortress 2\tf folder and in tf2, open the console and type "playdemo nameofdemo"

Additionally if you type "demoui" into the console you get a nice little interface which lets you skip to certain points into the demo (allthough that is rather difficult to handle because it only lets you skip to "tick"numbers)

Thanks very much for lefty and power helping us yesterday. From my point of view really helped me both to focus on what I need to do and also to relax more because I understand the role slightly better.

BTW: On that backcap to their 2nd on gullywash. I have an awfull feeling after i picked the scout I just wandered off instead of finishing capping the point. It doesn't really make sense but I have a funny feeling that is what happened.

While it's always nice to get some general pointers it's also not much use overanalizing every situation. The moment you actually learn from it is where you find yourself in the same situation but acting differently with a better result. What is lacking the most at the moment are communications from every member of the team I think. You can only respond appropriately if you know where all of the enemy players is, so let your buddies know where there are and hope they actually pay attention. Wink

Cheers to Power and Lefty for the pro tips. I played badly and didn't know what was going on most of the time.

As well as everyone announcing enemy locations and damage, I'd like if the combo could keep saying what their immediate plans are, because then if I'm off wandering (sorry - flanking) I would know where the battle lines are. My guess is the correct amount of comm chatter will seem like A LOT until we've played more and learned to filter.

I'm assuming you're playing scout. "Battle lines" will come with map knowledge, you'll start to learn the choke and holding points etc. but generally speaking as a scout, wait for your combo to do something first, it's not flanking if you're the only one there. You don't always need a detailed plan, just have the combo shout when they're going in, for the most part, their combo etc will be focused on your combo, you just need to get past their scouts (assuming they're watching the flanks)

That's not a strict rule of thumb, there will be times where you can sneak in on your own and cause some damage, which I think you can get away with a bit more in lower level games and just go beast carry scout mode. However at higher levels, don't count on it

Just gonna say this, can't think of any other examples but for instance, when on badlands mid pushing through choke to spire, scouts should only watch for other flanking scouts and not push wooden bridge (they have a resup, you don't), so you push in with your combo and try to stay alive letting the soldiers do the work, doing damage from a distance and watching for backcap or flank spots. You want to stay alive so you can cap etc. Same goes for mid, except you can do a bit more like watch for an aggressive soldier who will jump to kill your medic, you can stop him in his tracks as a scout. Unless you can catch them heavily off guard or their scouts are down you don't really want to be going heavily aggressive.

Yeah definetley like to say thanks to Power and Lefty for last night, was really helpful and mucho appreciated Smiley

I took a load of good points out of it, comms being a major one and places to stand safely to avoid those pesky snipers. Will try and communicate more what combo is doing and make sure demo is part of combo.

On a random sidenote, how do i bring down the console in TF2? I've not been able to do it ever, I know as default its binded to ` which its set to in my controls, Ive tried changing it to another key (=) and yet I still can't get it down. Any ideas? I assume you should be able to bring it down at any time like you could in TFC? its weird
