We should definitely make a clan or whatever.

I'm already pretty set on rolling a Norn Mesmer, failing that, a Norn Thief.

The above is precisely what puts me off these types of games. It seems you need a learn an entire new language, have a complete knowledge of MMO history and BRGADA*.

Don't get me wrong I would love to start playing them. I just don't have the time to start. Embarrassed

* Be really good at deciphering acronyms.

What acronyms?

Charr = a race in Guild wars
necro = Necromancer
PvP = Player vs Player
PvE = Player vs Enemies

The rest should be easy to know once you actually play it. I didnt know shit when I started with WoW and I was just like you and didnt invest much time into it in the beginning but it didnt take me long to decipher stuff such as lfg (looking for group) etc. You should have played long enough by the time you reach a certain level where youre ready to go in groups to know all this. This is far more accessible than LoL or DotA (for example) where youre getting planterblasted with acronyms MIA SS CV ULT DRAG "BLUE UP GET IT MID"

Besides its not mandatory to learn the "language". Back when I played Guild Wars 1 people usually wrote normal sentences when they were looking for groups.

Thanks for that Karthus, it sounds a bit less scary now. I decided that I need to play something other than shoot the mens all the time and this may well be an option.

Dont worry, MMOs are probably some of the most accessible games out there since you can do whatever you want, its not like you get put under pressure to reach a certain goal in time, you can get more serious when going for the best gear and equipment but thats all optional and not mandatory to enjoy it.

Guild Wars 1 especially was very easy to learn since it only has 20 levels to reach (wheres as most other have around 80 which take a few days of dedication to get). This one will have 80 aswell but it looks like everything is very storydriven rather than a pure grindfest (grinding = just slaying enemies in an area without a certain goal rather than just leveling your character).

Agree

Lord of the Rings Online (MMO)  was my first online multiplayer game. I'd never fancied online shooters because of the reputation they had of being full of trash talkers and that you had to be some sort of elite aimer to get any sort of enjoyment out of them.

I got into LOTRO immediately....like other MMOs you can play alone or with others and at your own pace. You can focus on getting top level gear and getting involved in organised Raiding (loosely, dungeons done in a large co-ordinated group) or not. Because you're getting skills only as you level up, you have plenty of time to learn them as you go and pick up the jargon.

That being said, they can be time soaks especially if you end up Raiding. At one time I was Raiding about 3 times a week on top of doing instances (smaller dungeon runs) to get myself better gear for it.

Raided for around 16 hours a week on average, usually around the 22 mark with overtime in WoW.

Massive timesink, but that's why I enjoy them. The lack of any instances above 5 people is somewhat of a put-off for me about this game, but the additional content seems worthwhile.

Basic human logic dictates however, that the 'mob' mindset overrides any form of logic, therefore I'm not expecting any hard encounters in terms of strategy due to the 'en-mass' nature of WvWvW.

Old news now, but ArenaNet have been hyping a big announcement that is due to come today. It's mean to be *big*, I'm personally expecting the public beta.

If you haven't already I'd follow them on facebook / twitter, past couple of things they have done has been solely for current followers (apparently).

Given that this announcement was made 16 hours ago, we're expecting it very soon.

Well if you're all getting involved then I'll probably pick it up as well. I played Rift for a few months and enjoyed that (having not played an MMO since I played Kalonline *a lot* back when I was like 15/16 and I can still say that I have *never* played WoW) but stopped playing when my friends stopped playing Sad
