What can I do about these?

I take it, as an engineer I can damage tanks etc, but as an assult soldier?

And jets and helicopters....can they be attacked from the ground? I've seen people using mortars..could you use them?

Yeah, as an assault your only option is pretty much to run away and hide etc. Mortars do quite a lot of damage to vehicles though I think. The only other option is to find a TOW launcher or pick up an engineers kit.

Meh, I've shot down a few helicopters with tank shells in BC2. That feels good.

The best thing you could do as <not engineer> is probably spot them, hide and hope someone blasts them to hell. Which is why it's nice to have a varied squad on you, with every class present. Although I presonally prefer 1 medic, 2 engies and 1 support. I don't know about damage on tanks, but one mortar round destroys a jeep completely.

IF you are an engineer, there is that other rocket launcher that is specifically aimed at flying things. Well every launcher is aimed at them, but those are aimed to be aimed at them specifically, locking on them and everything.

Also yay for killing a helicopter with a tank shell, did so myself in my first BF3 round. Quite a nice feeling, he was quite a bit away too.

If you are really brave stupid you can plant mines in front of vehicles or plant C4 on them.

helis only disable when you hit them with a tank shell now. Quite annoying, you have to hit a damaged one to get a kill.

Engineer has mines and dumb rockets for ground targets. The stinger and IGLA can only be fired with a target lock on an aerial vehicle. Similarly the javelin can only be fired with a lock on a ground target or laser designated target. You can also repair tool or eod bot a tank to death if you are a badass.

Assault grenade launchers actually do enough damage now to kill even main battle tanks but its rare you will do more than annoy it. Brahms has finished off a couple of burning tanks this way though. But yes your best bet is spotting or a mounted tow launcher.

Support can throw c4 onto vehicles at close range but because of infantry being op now I constantly have anti-infantry perks in my tank which include thermals and proxy sensors, i've killed lots more supports trying to c4 me than they have killed me with it. Mortar is pretty powerful versus vehicles and disorientating to new drivers. Now I know when i'm being mortared its just an annoyance and I drive off but plenty will stand still and die.

Recon are the most useless, very few use the soflam and hardly anyone bothers with laser designated weapons so chances are you will just lock on and spook them but noone will bother firing anything.

When it comes to anti-air stationary AA in your base or the mobile AA are the most powerful for killing them. But all vehicle gunner positions can inflict a little damage with their machine guns, nothing worthwhile on jets but as a gunner scaring the helicopters away and shooting them as much as possible is essential, and sometimes gets you a kill. Again though spotting any kind of vehicles is the most important thing you can do because there will be plenty of people on your team hunting for them with the right equipment/vehicle.

Just to go against what Disco is saying, if you're a tank/apc/jeep gunner and you see an attack helo, don't start shooting at it unless it's close/attacking you. You won't kill it, it will get pissed off and come for you.

Should be noted the vehicles in battlefield normally have pretty sophisticated damage modelling, so where you hit with an engi rocket is pretty important. But yeah as a non engineer, the best you can do it fire m320 grenades at the vehicle so that it's distracted whilst your engi friends kill it.

Can also take smoke as assault and use that to run away from the vehicle. Wish you could have smoke grenade and m320.. like in bf2...

eh I have downed and harassed helicopters at range but it is dependant on experience with the mg and not so great pilots. So admittedly if you are new to gunning or the game you should leave them alone and just spot them until you see it start an attack run on you. I do suggest practising shooting at them at range at some point though, but maybe when you know the enemy helicopter sucks.

nice video, didn't cover grenade launchers however which do hurt, as well as apcs and various unlocks for all vehicles. Admittedly getting all the unlocks will take some time and hopefully he follows up with a another video.

I've certainly taken a few notes to help my tanking Cheesy

Seemed sort of unsophisticated. I expect BF 3 tanks to have more hit locations than Front side and back. Here is information from BC2.

I can't see any critical weak spots, the only thing that stands out is one in the centre of the turret which you can only hit if you are above the tank... and a slight weakness to the machine gun. Everything else is similar to the rest of the tank side, and the only times you'll be able to land such a precise hit is being in a building in cover with a bit of height over an unaware tank. It doesn't look like there are any significant shortcuts to reducing your number of hits except front/back/sides. They've confused the diagram by putting tow numbers side by side with rpg, it would look at lot more boring with just one set. For instance the front takes 28 damage with an rpg at all points except the machine gun which takes 33.

If this was RO2 you'd need to learn all sorts of hitzones and weakspots but its not and I think in practice for BF front/back/sides assumption is sufficient, at least until someone can demonstrate critical weak points.
