Contrary to the beliefs of some forum members, CV was not banned from the forum for his opinions on Homeopathy but for his continued disgregard for the validity of the opinon of another forum member contrary to WDG's forum rules. WE (or should I say 'I', as my currently plumeting karma indicates) do NOT censor the opinions of others unless the breach our forum rules.

To this end, feel free to discuss the relative benefits or failings of homeopathy here.

I can't discuss this out of respect for those, who had homeopathics help them in the past, since the effect of homeopathics is hugely dependant on ones attitude towards them.

I don't think many people are that distressed about homoeopathy just that it was the wrong thread for either side to start an argument. Homoeopathy is accepted as complementary medicine because it is non-harmful and can via placebo effect provide a positive benefit to the health and wellbeing of patients, however its active physical effectiveness is non-existant: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9820349 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9758072

CV should have presented the mainstream science counterpoint and that should have been the end of it, Hzza could do his own reading and make up his own mind. With all the posts deleted I can't see who started things but both sides were in the wrong.

I don't think this thread is a good idea but meh.

I like Homeopathy, because it helped me a lot before. And I just feel better not to take that much "chemical" medicine. I don't know, if it is really better than "normal" medicine but I just feel better to use homeopathy, if possible.

It works as a placebo but chemical or physical effects should be zero. I'd happily go in to the technical side but that would induce boredom all around. I'm a Chemist who does a lot of work in the sector and trust me if there was anything in it pharma companies would be falling all over themselves to release products.

But then again I might just be in the pocket of the evil drug companies  >Cheesy

Good. I'm glad this went up as the discussion is valid.

(just where it was taking place was not really appropriate imho)

I don't believe in homoeopathy as a medicine or a science but I do believe in it as a psychological medicine. And not to be relied on if you are seriously ill.

For a very long time I had no 'belief' in the validty of homeopathy, along with no knowledge of it either. Having read up about it (with encouragement of my wife Smiley ) I have been willing to try out some elements of it. I'm still remarkably sceptiacal, but quite a few treatments sue the same active ingridients that common medicines are derived from, just not bundled up in little chemical packages.

I tried arnica after breaking my toe. There was a tiny amount of bruising considering the nature of the break, so much so that the consultant who reviewed me several days after in the fracture clinic, questioned whether I'd broken it at all! The x-rays indicated the break on treatment went on. If that was the placebo effect, then I need to see what else I can do with the power of my own mind! If I can help reduce bruising by pure belief, then maybe I can fly too! Wink

If you're actually interested in evidence-based medicine there's not a hope it works, but if people want to believe in it I'll nod politely and attempt not to argue with you in public. Unless I've had a few drinks Sad

It probably isn't a good idea, since that was an outrageous, clumsy and plain graceless banning purely because someone had the temerity to disagree with an admin (or an admin's wife). Maybe I'm used to more knockabout arguments than some of you are. I didn't see anything banworthy at all and I'm genuinely annoyed about it.

If it works for you, that's great. I know a lot of people who claim headache tablets don't work for them, I for one believe in them wholeheartedly and they work a treat.

If it doesn't? Just use conventional medicine then?

Were this discussion about something like Chinese 'traditional' medicine, where ingredients involved / manufacturing methods were controversial, then I could understand an uproar. I question any man's logic who believes the best form of Aphrodisiac is to slaughter a tiger and turn it into a paste.

Homeopathy really has none of these things attached to it, I don't see the problem :/ If it works, it works. If it doesn't - are you effected in any way?
