So I think its time this thing went out of my second floor window, and seeing as the vast majority of you know alot more about computers than me I thought I'd ask you guys to build me a rig if you will Smiley

Right so specification time, my very kind brother (spicyvegetable) just gave me a GTX 460 so I'm all good for a gfx card, other than that I have all the extras like mouse, keyboard and monitor. So I'd like a half decent rig for a few hundred quid, seeing as I already have a decent gfx card I was hoping that for 300 odd quid I could get something not bad. Also I am interested in one of those solid state drives, so a bit of info/suggestions on one of those would be welcome might be willing to stretch the budget a bit to accomodate one of those.

Ps. If people have fairly new spare parts that they want to sell, feel free speak up so I can make you an offer Smiley

I got a q9650 and 8GB of ddr3 I'd sell pretty cheap.. you'd had to get yourself a mobo to fit them though as mine's been taken apart for watercooling (didn't keep the stock coolers)
Ram is awsome and super quick, as is the CPU

You'd need a new heatsink too xD

You'll struggle to get an SSD and a case (as well as cpu, mobo, ram) for £300.

£300 will get you a reasonable cpu, mobo and ram though - you might be able to pick up a reasonable case within that as well - but for a 120gb SSD you're still looking at £150ish

Should be able to get a quad core Core2 or Phenom2 system second hand on ebay for around 250. Getting an SSD as well would be a struggle. You can get away with a 60 GB if you're not too fussed about having games on there, most of the benefits are from having windows on there anyway.

yea, unless you want my chip and ram, you're best off getting a good AMD system. Bang per buck AMD are owning Intel atm (at the high performance end though, intel are still winning Cheesy )

I'd wait for an SSD if you're strapped for cash though. There's been some big advancements lately with speeds going through the roof (550mbs anyone?) Prices are getting close to the £1 = 1GB range so it wont be long till they're actually affordable

You can still buy a cheaper 60gb SSD drive and put your OS on it? Works for me, all my real data and games are on other drives Smiley

Agree that it isn't an essential day 1 purchase though... get the basic rig up and running and add the SSD later (I think that this would be better)

Yeah I'd agree with Junta. The last PCs I built for someone was this:

AMD Athlon II X3 450 "Boxed" 95W, Sockel AM3         59,99 €
ASUS M4N68T V2, AM3, ATX                                     40,86 €
BenQ G2220HD                                                       109,99 €
HKC Case 7046GD, ATX, 420Watt                             39,89 €
MSI Radeon HD 5770 Hawk, 1024MB, PCI-Express      107,50 €
Sony NEC Optiarc AD-5260S, SATA, black, bulk      17,99 €
Western Digital Caviar GreenPower 500GB SATA II      31,99 €
Total:   408,21 €

Now, this PC runs TF2 just fine. Though mainly the point was to play WoW... Since you have  a graphics card already, take that out. There is also a new display in there, take that out. You might want to reuse your old HDD for data and buy a small 40-60GB SSD for your OS (where it mainly shines). Oh yeah and the RAM, though it's pretty cheap right now. And there you go, should be around 300GBP?

Disclaimer: the PSU is included with the case, which is never really really good, but since you don't have a very demanding CPU or graphics card, it's alright in my opinion. The 5770 is comparable to the GTX 460 and can run TF2 just fine at 1920x1080 (Lullaby has it, though her CPU is much weaker than in this PC).
