Hello People!

Basically - I want to get *just* a microphone of some description.

I have my little creative headset for LANs etc. but when I'm at home I never actually wear the headphones - I have the headset around my neck and position the mic somewhere in front of my face. This is all very well and good - but having the headset around my neck is becoming increasingly more of a pain in the ass. So I'd like to think about alternatives.

As I see it - there are 2 possible alternatives:
1) Desktop microphone

2) Clip-on microphone

Desktop microphone will probably be too much of a PITA, and I would want to have something on a long cord so it will reach to my bed etc. for xboxing.

Anyone else had a similar problem, how did you get around it?

Ok, nvm, jk. The Bluetooth knob is not a bad idea in itself, but: If you want a standalone mic to use it with your normal desktop speakers or for gaming as well, you might possibly want a headworn microphone-only set (you know, the things Singers and TV people use). That saves you much of the hassle with feedback loops and gives you great sound quality.

Wasn't sure where to put this so just thought I'd slap it in here cos I'm pretty pissed off atm

So I has this [headset , got it last year for my bday and it's treated me well. Untill last night

Had been using it before I went to work without issue. Went to work, came back, turned PC back on, joined mumble for a double mix, only to be told I wasn't making any sound. So checked the usual things (i.e. making sure it hasn't randomly been muted, checked it was plugged in right, tried both front and back ports etc) but nothing. At which point I was too tired so went to sleep. Had another crack at it now, and it seems the mic itself is buggered tried it on another PC and it still didnt work, then tried plugging the audio jack into the mic port, and I can use the headset as a mic, so it's nothing to do with the PC

Just a bit pissed off cos it just kinda came out of no where, worked fine then randomly stopped, without having done anything
So now seems I'll need to spend money I'd really rather not spend on another Headset before i42.

I'm using a Logitech USB desktop Mic, was quite expensive but I'm pretty happy with it.

i use this. apparently the mic is shit (people complain about it in game) but as headphones they are boss

Just get an Argos £7 desktop mic Mama, I had one for ages and it worked ok.

Cheapo desktop mic and a dedicated set of headphones is the way to go. Will cost you a lot less for much better quality.

Hmmm maybe, but for i42, I can imagine having a desk mix would just be a noise fest
