Yes I know its on a timer, and yes I know that if blue touch the bomb it will stop moving backwards BUT..
1) If I stand on the cart (or near it) the enemy has a harder job to touch it and get it moving again
2) If the enemy doesn't touch it then it begins to move back after the 30 seconds
3) If the cart moves back I'm happy and we might win
4) If the cart doesn't move back then its easier for blue to charge in and win
I may also be wrong, but I am sure that I have seen the timer on the cart start again more quickly when red stands next to it?
Therefore I conclude that the cart is a thing of beauty and must be touched by the defenders... lets love the cart.. keep it close to us.. treat it like a good woman (and no Dave, that doesn't mean we can spank it on the bottom)

I always thought the cart couldn't move as long as a red player was touching it. It was always my tactic at the end of a goldrush defence to just go pyro and stalwartly stick to the cart.

I reckon the WDG guys already know this, but it happens so often : when the little cart is nearly in its happy place, both sides need to get their bodies
physically on the cart
. The number of times blue have a lone scout on the cart capping while a sniper sits right at the back waiting for kills...it drives me nuts. I'm not just singling out snipers here - it's amazing how long a few people can hold that cart up for - and I know it ruins your points and your kpd and your ranking and everything, but none of that matters, only
the little cart
. Touch the cart!
this also applies to the control points, where engineers are perhaps the worst culprits...die on the point if you have to, just buy your friends some time!

Ah yeah, it's the last control point on dustbowl that drives me crazy. The number of times I've been the lone medic rushing frantically towards the point are far too many. Guess I just haven't played payload enough yet to get the equivalent situation drilled into my head.

On a more serious note, I'd say that the last moments of defenses are one of the few times when it's ok for defenders to go scout. The important thing is being able to get to the cart as fast as possible, even if you're just going to buy time for the more combat capable members of your team to join you.

Also a good tip:
The middle map on Goldrush, when attacking and pushing the cart to the final point, there is normally an SG on the right guarding.
I've managed to scout push the cart home whilst hiding behind the cart.. perfect cover.

Sometimes its a battle of attrition - rush the cart, die but keep moving it. Your KPD is badly affected, but the team win. Most people just don't want to do it.

It does rely on your team to mind the cart and doesnt always work but if I can bag the heavy/pyro/soldier the medic is healing he will run off as well so I remove 2 for the price of 1

I have no problem with snipers.. if they hit things
The problem is when you get a sniper who clearly cannot hit anything and they STILL watch the little cart moving toward's its happy place

No, wasn't aimed at you Gonk - a good sniper is really useful on GR defence
It's just that sniper attracts a lot of people who like to pull their rifle out and go and sit on the top right balcony with a cup of coffee. I've seen snipers finish the entire dustbowl round with 0 points

I could be wrong, but I think a lot of people don't know you can stop the cart moving if you stand next to it.... I normally shout this bit of information out when the enemy team gets close to capping.
As a Pyro I normally run circles around it until some sniper pics me off

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out the
Capture Blocked
action statistics. Which rather nicely highlights those players lower down the list who are unwilling to risk life and limb for the good of the team and need more encouragement.
Yes, I know my stats are skewed as I play demoman and my Sticky Bombs frequently save the day, but my above statement still stands.
