Just WTF has gone on? I know you guys over there had some very low temperatures, but that is rather allot of damage considering?

Girlfriend's uncle has been caught up in this, apparently they've had no running water for 6 or so days. He's flown over to stay with them mostly so he can have a shower before his wife kills him.

Oh yeah... quite common thing in Russia as well, though they've learned by now. Basically, if you have water in the pipes and the pipes aren't isolated, if it gets really cold and the water freezes in the pipe, they will burst. Try the same thing with putting water in a glas bottle and putting it outside with sub-zero temperatures for a couple of hours (or better don't). That's what happened with the pipes.

I heard some guy on the radio last night saying that because of the money spent dealing with the troubles in the 70's and 80's there was less money to spend fixing the "creaking Victorian infastructure" which is why the pipes have burst.

Whatever the reason, I have a spare bottle of water at my desk, want me to post it? Tongue
