Zarf was asking about a good fps config eariler so I thought I'd make a thread for this. I use it and I'm pretty sure a few others in the clan use it as well. Chris' fps ConfigI use the Highframes version in directx 9. It uses directx 8 as standard so if you want directx 9 you need to change the launch command from '-dxlevel 80' to '-dxlevel 90'. Also change 'mat_bumpmap' from '0' to '1' if you're using dx9 or else your character models will look really shiny.

I'm using it on my work laptop to play TF2 - get a pretty decent framerate - tends to always be at least 40, generally over 60 though.
Not bad on a laptop with no dedicated graphics card!

Why would you use a config and what are the pros and cons?

Mainly to get a nice stable, high fps rate. I've always found it makes the game run very smooth regardless of fps gains. Cons are that some of them (depending on which config you use) make your game look terrible.

I've started using it fairly recently because my game started stuttering all the time. And now it doesn't stutter and it basically looks the same as before due to the fact I'm using the least harsh config. ^^ The only thing is I can't see when people have coloured there hats because the colours don't show up in dx8

Plus you cannot see Kritz charges until a projectile/shot has been made. Pretty annoying for Medics like me because you can only tell after they have shot or you rely on your team to call it for you.

Even the glowing weapon bit? That's what I meant, all I can see weapon wise is the lightning effect which even then is quite hard to tell if, say, you're holding the 2/4 CP side of yard on Granary and they come through one of the doors from mid.

I think that that's dependent on dx level but I'm not sure.

You see the glowing weapon on DX9.
But they might added something for DX8 lately. Dunno, Ive been using his DX9config for quite a while now, tweaked it a bit (added the cartglow for playin with the SR) and its quite good, gave me a massive FPS boost without sacrificing too much of the graphics.
I would like to use a DX8 config, but there are no graphicfiles for the bloodeffects in the censored version, so its just black squares for me :/
