I just want to run TF2 at 1920 x 1080.... The screen flickers, the direct X level is set to 8?? and I get the following error: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?p_faqid=772If I reduce the resolution = game works. I can only go "as high" as 1600 x something in TF2 (no option to set 1920 x 1080). If I do select 1600 odd, then the screen flickers constantly and the game dies, then I get the "d3d" error above. Latest ATI and Direct X installed L4D, L4D2, BCBF2 and all other games are fine and have a 1920 x 1080 auto detect for graphics options. WTF....

I run TF2 without problems at this resolutions.
Have you tried setting the dxlevel as advised in the commandline?

Yes, it works. But I don't want Direct X 8.. I want what my card is capable of

Have you tried adding -w 1920 -h 1080 in the advanced start command line thing? I'm running a higher res then you without problems and thats how I did it..
edit - IIRC I had problems even being able to select the right resi in the options which is why I did it this way. Also, it was/is in every FPS config ever made so I think this is a more reliable way of changing resi.

Did a re-install and tried the Hzza suggestion, I seem to have 1920 x 1080 now. Thanks. WOW it looks good! What is puzzling, is that the "hardware" direct X mode (in advanced video options) is set to 8.1. The "Software" direct X mode is 9 something. Previously my "hardware" mode was 9... so no idea why raising the resolution would alter that!

I never understood that either, I force Dx8 and still get 9 for both software and hardware in the advanced settings.

I had the same problem with directx. Try to add -dxlevel 90 or -dxlevel 95 the same way as you did with resolution, worked for me.

Forced it *once* to dxlevel 90 using launch options. Then removed it. has been good ever since (i.e. remembered it). I can also get the full 1920 x 1080 now

I thought they helped it? I definitely don't want mouse acceleration.
