Does anyone have any idea what the painted items look like?

I painted my Tippler's Tricorne "Noble Hatter's Violet" as an experiment.

It looks quite cool, but it doesn't overlay a colour onto the texture, it just paint certain sections a uniform colour. In this specific case it leaves a gold trim and paints the rest of it uniform purple. I don't know if Valve will tweak this, I hope so anyway.

This also means I have the Mann Co. cap, which is, ok. Looks quite cool on the Scout.

Also crafted the Fish and the new Spy Pistol. The jigglebones in the former are quite satisfying, the latter I haven't tried yet.

Yeah - I think the fish is a must have tbh Epic weapon. Reminds me of the monty python sketch with wet fish

Strewth! This thread got long quickly.

I'm not paying THAT kind of money for a virtual hat. I spend a lot of time either laying on the floor or in chunks. A hat isn't going to help in any way, or enhance my game play.

Ok, fine, yes Valve have continued to support a great game long past when most publishers would. But the prices are anal. If Valve are looking for support then set up a "Donate" button on their WEB site and I'll quite happily throw a fiver in to it.

PS: deffianatly want to craft the fish. Take one Sandman and combine with x1 reclaimed metal = FISH!

PC Gamer: How do you find crates and what do they contain?

Robin Walker: Mann Co. Supply Crates are found only through playing the game, and require a Mann Co. Key to open them. Each crate contains one item from a list of potential items, which you can see in the crate description. They also have a chance of finding items with custom effects on them, which are the rarest items in the game right now.


The keys aren't cheap IIRC.

ive seen the supply crate idea in bf heros. They are awful, they box in a bunch of crap and throw in a few rare items and overprice them. Its essentially gambling. If you have to pay for keys i am disappointed with valve for going that far.

So yeah a key costs £2 too much for in game gambling, they do not drop. Currently a crate contains one of the following

Vita-Saw - medic melee drops normally
Gunslinger - engi melee drops, achievements, craftable
Equalizer - soldier melee drops, achievements, craftable
Scottish Resistance - demo weapon drops, achievements, craftable
Old Guadalajara - new pyro hat, drops
Napper's Respite - new pyro hat, drops
Name Tag - lets you name an item, drops
An Extraordinary Abundance of Tinge - white paint only available from crates
A Distinctive Lack of Hue - black paint only available from crates
Or an Exceedingly Rare Special Item! - random hat with 'unusual' before its standard name, purple lettering, and a super-rare particle effect
