At least the insane prices will keep all the rich kids from owning all the new gear without a care, and the side effects of some of the set items will keep them from being over-powering. I like the enforcement of subclasses idea- a sniper that can't be killed by headshots but can't deal headshots is fascinating in the way it turns them into a real support class, weakening enemies with the jarate effect at long range. As for a spy that can't disguise at will (or cloak at will if you take the DR along), the playstyles that could emerge from this could be very exciting. Or they might be crap.

All Polycount weapons will be dropped as well as being able to be crafted (specific recipes). You can't get them via achievements, though.

If they let people sell each other hats for real money, then I see the price of the hat market dropping out almost instantly. Hats are not worth #17 and everyone knows it.

Was thinking about the price point on the way in to work and started thinking; I bought the Orange Box for £20, 3 years ago, just so I could get HL2 + Episodes. £20 for 3/2.5 games is fucking good value, especially as the HL series is one of my favourite game series ever, so I had absolutly no problem paying that money; but for the £20 I also got Portal and TF2 for free, basically. I didn't specifically want them, but hell, they're on the disk, I'm going to play them! TF2, a game that I have played at least a couple of hours of every week for 3 years. A game that has been constantly tweaked/changed/patched with new maps, additional content and HATS(!), for free, for 3 years. A game that introduced me to this community and all you legendary people, and all for free. I dropped £0.00 on TF2 and it has undoubtably bought me some of my greatest gaming experiences to date, has been supported by one of the greatest developers ever and has established the greatest gaming community to spring up around it. As much as I lament paying stupid money for inconsequential DLC (ie HATS [and Claptraps New Robot Revolution....]), on this occasion I might be tempted to send some money Valves way, just to show support and say thanks.

Valve are 100% worth supporting, and have proven it by supporting their games, long after other devs would have fucked off onto the next project without a backwards glance. This is why, on this occasion, I will drop money on some form of ingame item that I don't particularly want or need as a way of saying thanks to the best Dev on the planet. Just something I thought of stuck in traffic, take it as you will but YMMV .

In retrospect TF2 is worth a lot more than most of us paid. But I don't want to communicate that to Valve by dropping 5 quid on some crappy weapon, lest they get the idea I think this is sensible pricing. I suspect 90% of their sales are to games reviewers at this point

Pretty much what's already been said, but I dont mind that've put in a shop to buy things, I welcome giving a bit back to the developers of a game that's had me hooked for the past 3 years or so. But those prices are just retarded!

We all lolled at CoD:MW2 selling a few maps for £10, yet some might be willing to pay £12 just for an ingame hat. BONKERS I TELL YA!

Haven't actually looked at the prices yet (couldn't get in last night) but I'm sure they'd make more sales/money if they went down this route...
