So my parent's PC currently looks like this- Installed latest drivers. Tried a different monitor. Haven't tried a different graphics card yet, mostly hoping that the gfx card isn't fucked and that someone here has any ideas. Ty for reading. Moar- Went into display settings, and put the colour and resolution back up. Screen goes black, I click yes to save changes and then the colour and resolution settings drop back down again.

That's a driver f*ck up or I've not seen one!
Try an *older* version of the driver?

Roger that. Been messing with installing drivers for a while now, doing it properly with safemode and such.

You got a (linux) live cd so you try if it's software or hardware?

Try the linux live cd, Ubuntu doesn't take long to download and burn. If it works there, uninstall the drivers in device manager and try a drivercleaner to remove all traces of the old drivers, reboot and reinstall latest ones. You'd be surprised at how often drivercleaning helps.

No sir. You can also download one fairly easily if you have a spare PC with a CD-Burner. 700mb disc image.

You fine fellows are going to have to explain what you want me to do with Linux exactly, I'm afraid.

With a live disc, you can boot off the CD. Takes ages, but once you've done that you can check to see if you can make the graphics driver work under Linux, which is wholly friendlier than Windoze for changing drivers etc.

Also discovered last night that Vista SP2 fails to install on that machine.

Roger that. Been messing with installing drivers for a while now, doing it properly with safemode and such. Be sure to the use the graphics drivers cleanup tool thing (cant remember what its called now) but gfx drivers are extremely stubborn at removing
