Oh dear...

Apparently the demo was leaked by accident, so it's on some torrent sites if anyone can be bothered to look hard enough. The demo itself will be free, with the full version costing $10 and having everything as supposed to the quarter of the stuff the demo has.

What happened to the DRM they were going to use, did they just settle on SecuROM in the end?

I think EA changed their mind and DRM will be absent.  Though you will still need to connect to the maxis servers as all the content is user generated.

So, apparently you can claim the cost of the full creature creator off the final game if you buy it. So I'm doing that when it's out, which for some reason is after the trial, which is out now. I made an evil looking cylindrical thing with four arms and an eye in its ass. It rocks.

Have to say, loved the creature creator, just making random guys and making them jive in a circle... Already desperate to get the full game I think it could very well be social-life ending in its ability to suck me in

Well folks, it's about a week until this is released so I thought i'd bring this thread back up!

I really hope this game is as good as I think it's going to be! I hope it's going to be an adult orientated game rather than Sims 2 which seems to be a lot more child orientated than Sims 1

Maxis have always been about family games, so I'm not sure Spore will mark a big change. It looks cute, let's face it.
As someone who's always used Sims expansion packs as easy present ideas for his little sister, I've found that they're quite good at hiding adult stuff beneath a cutesy surface. The 'Woohoo' in the Sims 2 is a prime example: off the top of my head, you have your sims do it in a bed, a hot tub, a changing room in a shop, a photo booth, and a lift. You also get life goals that I'm surprised they get away with- I've seen a sim who was pretty hard to keep happy unless he was sleeping with someone about twice a day.
