There is this link on RPS that summarises the entire Bill, the issues around it, the Join Select Committee's response and the how far through the system the Bill is.

I read that...it was deeply unconvincing. For example:
"it would give the UK games industry a powerful weapon to deploy against games piracy/copyright infringement"
Which most MP's would (rightly or wrongly) say was a good thing, so it's hard to use that as an argument against anything.

Likewise, but again, hardly a good argument against a proposed bill. I was hoping for something specific to poke at. I guess I need to actually read the original bill

I think basically the 3 strikes and then undefined punishment is what there is to be angry about claws. If the entertainment industry wants to keep abusing corporate law to punish individuals thats lame but just about legal (They need to come up with appropriate punishment for individuals if they really want to keep doing this, £50 fine or something, not the fine that is intended to be levied against a corporate entity). That they want to be able to take action on suspicion of infringement and to potentially ban individuals from the internet (which in this modern world is cutting you off from access to commerce, government information, banking and bills (increasingly moving online) etc). Its just totally awful and pathetic. I'm not sure if the bill has even bothered reworking the fines themselves or anything to something more suitable? There are many things wrong with copyright law it needs rethinking (in my opinion no punishment to the individual is justified it is supporting an outdated business model which no longer fosters creativity and punishes those seeking enjoyment from it, the original laws were drafted for use against competing companies selling your ideas not consumers obtaining free copies, copyright is meant to ensure noone else can profit from your idea, it was never intended to prevent its spread freely as a cultural phenomenon, you should be happy so many people find it worthwhile and if you care about getting paid ensure you are providing a valuable and unique service in purchasing directly from you instead of obtaining a free copy), using the current mess as justification to sever people from the internet is just horrendous, the internet is no longer a privilege it is increasingly becoming an indispensable part of modern life. Fast internet access is a legal right in Finland (1 MB minimum connection speed) so one day I may have to sail to viking country and commune with the swedes and the fins. And eventually back we shall come in our longboats preying upon your coastal cities, laying cables of light and bringing the internets back to a starving peoples. The Kings of your shires will call us raiders and pirates but we shall settle your land and install our hubs into your towns and intermarry with your womens, and viking blood will once again fill your veins and your fibre optic data centres.

They've already covered those in separate bills with magical secretary powers. Personally I think the extended stop and search powers are illegal (did the EU say so too i forget?) and at least should only be relevant in a court of law for terrorism charges. But its a bit harder to tell them to sod off on those.
