Today I assembled my personal NASsie. After retrieving two pushbuttons (power and reset) from two computer cases in the chair's garbage box (which involved picking the lock of one front panel whose key someone had thoughtfully thrown away

) and fitting these into the appropriate positions of the previously casemodded SCSI storage tower (also from the aforementioned garbage collection), which is now home to a 3x3.5" SATA HDD enclosure, ION MiniITX board and assorted miscellenia, it finally started to look the way I wanted it to.
The rest of the day up to now was spent thinking about how to get a debian on that thing, since I only remembered I don't have a spare SATA CD drive when the box arrived. Bugger. Right now I'm done preparing a USB stick which will provide the installation media for a second usb stick which will be home to the NASes OS (the aforementioned debian, the reason for this being that I want to have the drives as data storage and data storage only...).
Now on to the replugging and booting that bugger up. Wish me luck.
