Yeah, I wouldn't be as reluctant to watch the movie if it had any other name except for Holmes, because I expect a quite the opposite of that from a Sherlock Holmes movie. It's like making a Hulk 2, where Hulk is sitting in the park, playing chess.

Maybe a good action movie, but fucking marketing fail IMO. Still probably gonna watch it at some point.

I probably like it so much because I wasn't expecting anything from the film, it was more "don't have time to see Avatar, what else is on"? and was pleasantly surprised.

Don't think that's quite right, the marketing very much pushed it as an action movie/reimagining thing rather than something faithful to the books.

Well... reimaging fail, then. Like I said, if they were to make a Hulk movie about Hulks hidden passion of playing chess in a park and the marketing would push it as "The most passionate chess movie you've ever seen" it would still be stupid.

Not interested. I sigh at you guys thinking casually raping well known and loved characters for stupid action films is acceptable.

Yes, perhaps if they made it with totally differently named characters (whereupon it'd be a bog standard action film) I'd be more accepting.

This isn't a "Oh, well, you can just ignore it and the original isn't tainted (see: Star Wars 1-3, Matrix 2-3)" but just "Man, that guy just decided he liked to use that name for fucking publicity". Disney pull this all the time too.

Don't owe him anything to see it mainly because of that. There are better ways for me to waste 4 hours and several English pounds Like watching the amazing ITV series episodes for instance.

Rant over, sorry, just gets me annoyed. No respect, no originality, total and utter laziness. Ahh well...

Uhuh even a minor rename would have been acceptable to me, like how in comics you just start writing about someones similarly named cousin, or how in superman every damn character has initials of LL or CK. Maybe Sebastion Holmes, Sherlocks fiesty nephew or something.

Saw it tonight, have no prior knowledge of the books and thought that it was a very very average action film tbh. Robert Downey Jr was epic, Jude Law was a c-unit and all the "magic" plotlines were obviously tied up. Not really sure what else to say except that it may be the future definition of "meh" films.

Also, it was too long. But then most films are too long for me these days, maybe its a sign of getting old.

Avatar at 162 minutes (162 minutes = 2:22 minutes, 3 hour sitting down including the crapp pre-adverts!) might disagree with the "getting too old" thing, stuff is getting *vapidly* longer for no real reason.

This one appears to be 134 minutes. 2 hours and 14 minutes. Wow...

LOTR I can kind of cope with, watch able stuff (and yep, it was long - perhaps more should have been on DVD), some films are too long though...

2:42 rounds up in my head as 3 hours...too long. I didn't know Sherlock Holmes was over 2 hours, explains why my bladder felt like it was going to burst...could have done with some trimming (the film, not my bla...oh forget it).
