recently got a Saphire Vapour-x 5770 and it's much quieter than the 8800gt which is what I had before. it looks like it'll support what you're after Tea but I've not tried it yet

If I've read the various sources correctly a 5770 should require less power than my old GT8800, correct?
So my current PSU should suffice?

The new ATI cards are built using the 40nm process, therefore consume much less power than the old 8800GTX.
I can't say however, if you can run it on your current PSU. I would guess that a 500w PSU (or there abouts) would be fine.

500w should be fine. In windows it downcloaks to reduce power and heat, at full power it uses a little more than a 8800, iirc ~180w I have a 620W, but im running:- Q6600 (B3) 4GB Ballistix RAM P35-DS3P Mobo 1x ati 5870 1x xfi soundcard 1x Dual TV Tuner card 2x 160GB HDDs 2x 250GB HDDs 2x DVD RW Drives 1x BluRay, DVD RW Combi 6x 120mm Case Fans |

I posted earlier what mine uses - with the only difference that I now have a 5850.
My front panel is reporting 163W at roughly idle (calculated from the power supply cable) and I havn't checked it yet while gaming.
5850 is an awesome card by the way...having a couple of problems getting anti-aliasing and anistropic filtering working in TF2 (was getting a black screen) but I can play other games with full graphics settings and they look very pretty with good frame-rates.
Also - Catalyst 10.1 has been released. Apparently there are new features coming with 10.2 and 10.3 - interested to see what they've got in the pipeline.

Strange, I was getting the same crash with my 4850 on Vista; AMD have only confirmed it as a problem with 5000 series cards on Win7. I've heard of other people reporting the same thing, aparently it had something to do with some settings in the CCC (can't remember which, will post when I get home).
Ignore that, didn't read the third paragraph!

zalman make fanless PSUs
but they use american capacitors so they dont last forever like most good brands.. I have a Tegan bz-1300w and i never hear it

Pretty quiet. They get excellent reviews. |
