Yes, I'm annoying. I simply can't get over the fact that on most nights #1 is bursting from it seams while #2 is empty.
But today I want to try a different angle.

You may have noticed that the last couple of weeks you had the pleasure to kill me as demo mostly, since I'm trying to get used to that class a bit more. The simple fact that you will find me on the bottom of the scoreboard shows how well I'm doing Cheesy

I think I did my first baby steps along that fricking learning curve just to find myself on a plateau at the moment, and personal lack of skill set aside I think one of the reasons for that plateau is that quite often I don't have time to learn something because I die so much.
With 13 players on the enemy team it's simply too hectic and each attempt to find a handle on a situation is usually cut short by another enemy player killing me.

Long story short: Right now I think it would help me to play games with smaller teams. Not comp team sizes, but perhaps 8 or 9 players max. With those you can still play all kind of maps but without the total mayham we often have on #1.
I would be interested if other people here feel the same?

So three suggestions for #2:
- Reduce the max number to 18
- Do a PUG Event once a week (sundays?)
- Consider to enable HLStats (I still suspect those are more important to some people than they are willing to admit)

Lowering the max players when there isn't even players on it is a bit odd :/

In any case, we need more server 2 action, yes. Need some other custom maps on there, and some setup nights to play on it properly.

There have been at least 3 occasions in the last 2 weeks where server #1 has been full and I have gone to server #2 and sat there...alone...for a good 20 minutes or so before giving up.

One night r007 even posted a console message on server #1 saying he was in server #2 and for people to come and join him - but we were there for at least 40 minutes or so and only 1 person turned up.

Now you tell me...if we are making a concerted effort to try to populate server #2 - and you are so desperate for it to be used then why do I end up sitting there alone for 20-30 minutes with no-one turning up? One prime example was after our match with the NuB's - since server #1 was already full I made an effort to unlock server #2 asap so that there wouldn't be a sudden influx of players kicking the regs from #1.

This has now been the 2nd/3rd thread related to this issue - and it's annoying me slightly because you are quite happy to post about server #2 being empty - but I have yet to see anyone actually join server #2. Obviously server #2 being empty isn't a problem for me because I get reserved slot so I can get on regardless - so the fact I'm trying to make an effort to get people onto server #2 and it's failing because no-one else is willing to try...well what am I supposed to do?

edit: i'm sorry if those post sounds exceptionally arsey - but having spent at least an hour or two over the last couple of weeks sitting in our empty server to try and populate it to then see ANOTHER "use server #2" thread appear is a little frustrating.

I'd say go into server 2 and invite everyone via. steam friends Cheesy

If an admin is available on server 2 (ie; yourself Smiley ), you can actually choose the random maps you don't usually get to play (arena, various customs) since the map voting is limited to 5 maps out of something ridiculous like 40 Smiley

I wish the bot scene was up to scratch, it'd be fun just blasting some of them away on some of the custom maps Smiley

All the more since you have taken some attempts to start some games on #2.
I didn't know and I might have missed it in the past. I'll keep my eyes open in the future (if necessary, see below).
In case of r007s attempt: He asked for people to join some KOTH, and while I play it when it comes up this mode doesn't hold enough incentive for me to switch servers.

I realize that all this is actually none of my business.
But you are right, this is not the first time I wrote about that and made suggestions or we've discussed it.
Custom maps: Nah, nobody likes it.
Fun events: With the current FF this might be no longer relevant.
Highlander: No idea.
In general: People want to play with their friends.
Then for a while it was running Arena which drew people in, but I was under the impression it was never quite that popular amongst the community here.

And with all that talk about competitive games I was thinking why not create an environment which leans a bit more into that direction. Perhaps that would be an incentive, no idea.

Again, not my business, so feel free to say I should shut up.

But I agree that I should put my money where my mouth is. So starting today I will not join #1 but #2 instead for the next week. Hopefully it will not be locked, which has been the case the last few days.
If nothing else I can practice sticky jumps Cheesy

Still, if I were you I would seriously consider to put HLStats on #2. I might be wrong, but I could imagine some of our more rank-oriented friends here might hesitate to join 2 since they can't get points there (but then again I assume both servers would have their own Stats, right? Or can they be combined?)

I'd say the only thing that would get me playing regularly on Server 2 would be to combine the stats with Server 1.  I do like to see how I've done against my past performance and others, it gives that extra bit of challenge and feedback I like.

I'll gladly join you on Server 2 if you invite me and I got nothing to do, but how about this:

There is a server plugin which will make switching servers easier. For one, you could set it up, so you just have to type some command to get connected to server #2 (like /connect server2 or something). And then there is a possibility (if it is possible, I don't know the plugin that well), that instead of kicking people for reserving slot, you redirect them to server 2.

I only saw that plugin at HH servers I think, but I might be wrong. Definately saw something like that, though.

Well, I think autoredirection when full isn't a great idea anyway (sending someone to an empty server?) - so I don't worry about it being hard or easy to do Smiley

At the risk of being Mr CrankyClaws, I don't see why #2 being empty is such a big problem. It has its designated uses and earns its keep. If it's that #1 is too full, then the question is 'do we have enough community to maintain 2 full servers', and the answer is probably 'no'.

People stick around because they like playing *together*. We've tried to divide things up before and I don't think it's worked very well, we just ended up with vaguely unsatisfactory games on two servers. I suspect it'd be hard to regularly fill both servers without expanding the clan, and there's a whole bunch of pros & cons with that which would need another thread.

The stats geek in me finds the idea of combining two servers into one ranking horrible(!). Stats on #2 as well might bring in more people, but personally I feel it's a bit premature. Disclaimer : I don't care about my stats anyway.

And why would anybody trade a spot in a filled server for a spot in a other server which might get enough players to get a halfway decent match going?
The players who didn't snatch a spot in #1 are your target audience! Add everybody to your friendslist that showed up to #1 more than once and spam invites to them all. If you're just sitting there, it's nice effort but 95,5 percent of the regs won't even notice. (I didn't.)

(Sorry if that sounded harsh, I didn't mean to.)

Having those "Also available server #2: dustbowl 8/32, type !server to join" messages might help, especially when a map comes up which is not rated high in some peoples opinion.

While I don't see the big problem, would running stats, but parallel to #1, not merging into it's stats help?

Any stats on server 2 would not be merged with server 1. I don't think that HLStatsX wants people paying once and freeloading with extra server registrations and bandwidth being used up.
