She or he havent found them yet ingame with this message appearing "New weapon found" so its not placed in the backpack yet

The whole "Your honesty has been rewarded with a new hat" I think is BS. That's probably the main thing that annoys me.

Yes..."honesty"... as if 95.5% of TF2 players are honest. I refuse to believe that every single person that plays TF2 was aware of the idle tool, and I also believe that there would also be a significant number of those that were aware who just sat in TF2 idle servers.

I would reckon that a considerable percentage players meet one or more of the following criteria:
a) bought the game as part of the orange box and never installed it (blasphemy I know!)
b) havn't played tf2 since the update introducing hats (they havn't been honest...they've been bad customers (not strictly true as they *have* paid for the game etc. etc.))
c) played tf2 since the hat update, but barely noticed any difference
d) played tf2 since the hat update, but not that bothered by the hats at all to think about idling for them (well then it makes no difference to them)
e) played tf2 since the hat update, really wanted a hat and went looking for ways to find them... this then comes under 2 categories... those who went to idle servers, and those who found the idle tool. (these are the groups that in valve's opinion should be 'punished' )

Now...of *those* people...who looked at and/or downloaded the idle tool...considering it was posted as an article on a website about a HL2 plugin who then decided that they would not use the idle tool as it goes against their moral compass.

Since they've let people using idle servers slide (but gone out of their way to find those who were using the idle tool, no doubt wasting development time which could have been spent preparing another class update instead of creating a ridiculous hat and the "you are a cheater" and "you are honest" messages) ) (as a side note...i did approve of the medals, as it was a nice little easter egg and I appreciate things like that) they are disregarded. Those who truly deserve the halo are those who were aware of idling methods, but then made a conscious decision not to use them.

I understand that this would be impossible to implement, but I refuse to believe that these people make up 95.5% of the Team Fortress 2 community.

Not to mention the massive split it seems to have made in the community by STUPID RETARDS WHO THINK THAT USING THE IDLE TOOL WAS *ACTUALLY* CHEATING. *chills*

Anyway, rant over. My 10p worth. I'm going to bed now as my face feels like it's about to melt. Goddamn mexican pigs.

Also...cruelcow: sometimes you have a die 2 or more times for the items to appear in your backpack.

No, that's not quite what I meant. I wasn't addressing the simple issue of "Those who used the idle tool" and "Those who didn't". I'm addressing the fact that they have labelled everyone that didn't use it (and indeed those who used idle servers instead, those who don't even have it installed, those who never even heard of the idle tool) as some kind of saint...

It's fair enough that using third party programs to bypass something you do in-game is considered "unjust" in the eyes of valve. But to label those that didn't do it as "saints" when I bet a good proportion of them wouldn't even know what's going on seems a little bit off to me.

(Not to mention their exceptionally slow response on the matter...like it would have been difficult to change the update news or make a blog post along the lines of "We remind you using third party programs to circumvent the item drop system is considered cheating" would have stopped this whole mess anyway. - but I dare say this point has been raised many times)

why couldn't they have spent the time stopping the servers from lying to them? I know they put in a server scoring system...but why not fix whatever caused the servers to be able to lie in the first place.

Not to mention the blog post the day after the scout update from the announcer where people had found an exploit to wield invalid items. A much faster response than the 2 months we're looking at for this, and they clearly were aware of it much before then considering the publicity it got.

No Valve gave you back all weapons yesterday that you lost through that "Were gonna f*ck all those dirty cheaters"-Update, that were originally earned through achievements, I got back my Blutsauger, Flaregun, Huntsman, Sandvich and C&D at once.
