In a way its a kind of cost shifting. Valve is perfectly happy to go along with the industry notion of free2play as long as some of their customers spend stupid amounts on the game. But I dunno can't we just go back to the old system where everyone pays a reasonable amount for the gaming experience.
Some of their customers, like yourself? Seriously, I'm not pointing my finger at you and saying "you're the reason TF2 sucks now", but you probably spent more money on TF2 crates than the rest of Valve's games combined. What message do you expect them to get from that?

I'm sorry cruel, I've learnt my lesson . It was too easy to get caught up at the time with disposable income and just throw money at them. Partly my fault but valve present themselves as a nice/honest/responsible company. Neither the crates or the new tickets are nice/honest/responsible. I'm not totally against hats, I still like them and the tf2 store in general doesn't bother me. When you still had to pay for tf2 the hats truely were extras you could buy or just farm. And valve still had incentive to make the GAME worth buying. The only thing I'm arguing against here is free to play supported by extras, when they become the primary financial motivator.

I assume the reason behind the official servers is to stop people modifying/cheating the server/system to get items. I think the TF2 community has proved enough times that some will do anything for items (e.g. working out the timing on golden wrench drops or idling to get items).

well yeah presumably if community servers could do it you could spam server events to at a minimum swap tickets for items without playing anything. Official servers would be fine if they didn't suck. As Gabe loves to say he's selling you a service but the amount of times I lose connection to items/matchmaking because the servers can't handle load sucks. And the official hardware is kinda bad or poorly located.

I'm sure companies like Multiplay will get some community servers going...eventually.

Alright, WDG peoples. I'm back in the game. Spent a while depressed and moving house and broadband issues but I'm back for TF2ing, and now playing mostly soldier. New game mode is FUN but FRUSTRATING. On a server with random peeps you tend to hit a brick wall. I've just spent 2 hours on the final wave of the first mission before giving up, on an official server too so there would've been a hat in it. On Mumble would be much better.

Is there any sort of ctf stuff in this new mode (I haven't played it yet) Because there seems to be HUD elements for it. HudObjectiveFlagPanel.res has a load of if_mvm things in it.

Fixed Demoman shields not reducing explosive damage in non-MvM games
Uh... what? Since when was that bug in? That's the single reason I'm using the stupid shield...
