Just a reminder to our faithful supporters that we have a class limit system imposed on Server 1. This has been around for a while and is nothing new:
The limits are: 3 snipers, 3 spies and 3 engineers on the same team.
Therefore we won't be seeing full sniping teams on server 1 after the latest update is applied
You may consider this a good or a bad thing, but we're running with it. Server 2 remains unaffected, so if anyone wants to play "Team Sniper 2" - please feel free to take advantage of Server 2!!!
Thanks for your on-going support, and we hope that the class limits make our server an island of sanity post sniper update

When did this take effect? (I've not been on for a month, except the clan V regs match).
While this is a good thing, it's a shame that you
need
to enforce this, I know that most players are mature enough to change class and it's just a few individuals (normally new players to the server) who refuse to change.
The only reason I'm slightly sad is that we can no longer do the good ol' "hey guys, let's surprise them with a spy rush!" on gravel pit, or whatever.
At least we can still have glitched heavy rushes!

Playing with a few friends from uni on pub servers the last few nights, I've seen 7 engie defenses, 5 scout defenses, and most bizarrely a 6 sniper attack. And this is before the sniper update. WDG's gonna be the shelter in the storm of arrows, I reckon.

I also feel that the 3 engie limit kinda takes away some of the team-play aspect (it's always nice to switch to engie for a few mins to help someone else set up).

Thanks for ur points Terror. It does take a little away it's true, bit it gives so much more back in terms of team stability and appropriate class selction as to make those very minor points indeed.
And as we've said in many threads before, both public and private, we have 2 servers, the second without limitations.

Not at all mate. I think the limits on server 1 will help, and I don't think our regulars are to blame in any way. Sadly the other public visitors sometimes don't care about class balance, and it can be frustrating for us and the regulars. This is a way to try and keep things sensible - the fact that it hasn't been spotted by many people sort of proves that we've not been too silly with our limits I think
We had to publish the limits though, specifically since people will notice during the sniper update which is coming very soon!
*You did raise a point I didn't consider actually - teamwork from a temporary engineer
The idea being that the main engineer would drop a teleporter at spawn, then run off whilst another "friend" engineer upgrades it for him (meanwhile he's off setting up his sentry). The helpful friend then returns to spawn, changes to soldier or something, having saved the main engineer time upgrading. This is still possible with 3 engineers on a team - maybe more co-ordination needed (someone asking for this help would be a good start)

Exactly that!
And I second pretty much every other point. As Junta said, the problem will be more coming from random pubbers looking for a server to do some l33t sniping. But that's exactly the kind of people I assume we can do without
As for the temp engy: You're right, Terror, but it's rarely done anyhow. And having 3 engies with the mindset to actually work together and support each other (which, let's face it, doesn't happen that much) should be enough on a regular pub game.

I'm still against it in general, certainly because at times it is wise to put extreme emphasis on a certain class type for a limited amount of time - spy rushes, sniper defences, engineer teleporter building/upgrading...
I seem to be pushing against the norm here though, and yes, I have come across the limits for sniper and engineer - once was for fun, but other times out of necessity - on a full team of 13, 4 or 5 of those classes (not spy, because I don't play it and 4 or 5 is a bit outweighed since not many can play it well) is not necessarily a bad thing if you have good players playing them - or in fact, if you are the only good one of that class and need to help the others out.
I'm of the mind that it's just when a lot of bad players play a lot of the same class it can go wrong - at least a pyro, heavy, soldier, demoman or medic can damage or heal something, I guess, so it's less noticeable
